Might be also you would still need generators as a backup in case of power cut. unless you build a UPS which would be expensive and only in use for a few weeks a year ( the batteries would need replacing every 3 years as well).

There are definitely a lot of generators on site, that's for sure.

Loads happening today! Looks like the Park stage build has begun, that wooden hut thing behind the tree at the top of the Park, Other stage is going good guns, tracks being laid for Arcadia! Still no sign of the fence. Is that the pier build I can see beginning?

Does anyone know how most of the site is powered?  Is it all by generators, or are any of the stages hooked up to the grid?

An old link but

Would the capacity of the (you'd assume, fairly basic) electricity grid in the local area be a limiting factor?

For example I know that with water, the local infrastructure can't cope with the extra peak demand that comes at festival time and hence the festival has needed to build a dedicted reservoir on site (maybe 2 of them?).

Pretty much yes. Main load will be lighting, sound systems and catering equipment all adding up to a peak load of a small town Id assume. Especially at around 10/11pm when all food places, soundsystems and lights across the site will be on. A grid connection will be possible but like you said will probably require major infrastructure changes far up the supply to allow for the increased capacity. I once got quoted £35k to bring a 3 phase supply to a not very rural house.

Theres probably a lot of bureaucracy involved in who would own and maintain the new network as its largely private and would require specialist (high voltage)technicians to look after the substations and switch gear.

At least with generators they allow each stage to be independent of the next and will be familiar to the crews. Downside diesel has a much higher carbon intensity than the grid.

Are we sure that's The Wormhole? On the map it seems to be further up the hill.

I think you're absolutely right, is it bbc studios or tree cafe maybe?

I heard that - wasn't sure whether it was a myth or not... If so, perhaps they should do it again but properly this time?

I'm not sure on the timescales but I've got a vague recollection that they did have a more recent attempt - most likely somewhere in the 5-10 years ago range though could also be a shade over that.

It was much less obvious than the one in the 90s though. I'd not noticed it until I spotted a stall in the Green Futures Field with information about it, and upon returning to the Pyramid was able to recognise it.

Come to think of it, it might have been one of the vertical wind turbine types rather than a big windmill design - but again, memory is hazy.

Security is now on the entrance at Mary’s gate and red gate. Fencing is starting to appear in the compound at red gate. Fencing going up to the left hand side as you look at the pyramid. I did take a photo but it wasn’t good enough.4E5937C2-35CF-4362-A73D-F1E6A5275FF8.thumb.jpeg.4fee0a80812e958c73e57f7eddf4e9c7.jpeg

Feels more real when fencing is in play.

Feels like Arcadia might be about to step up to a new build phase, with tracks laid down and the foundation work going quiet.

With the amount of work that has gone in to the foundations it promises to be some mighty structure.

Plenty of things that still aren’t clear...

What are all the trucks doing up near PGA?

What on earth are Arcadia up to?

Where are the Pyramid’s speaker/video racks going to fit in?

When will we get first sight of the fence?

Everything about the pier!

It’s a great time to be alive ?

I don’t get what you mean about the pyramid speakers and screens - they go in front of the platforms either side?

I’ve always thought they get constructed before the platforms but am probably wrong about that’s.

I can’t wait to behold it!

I'm hoping they cover the build in scaffolding and tarp so its hidden from the webcam until we all get on site

They must be doing something to hide it. Sounds like it's a bit bigger than the spider.

Agreed. I am in a horrible position where I don't want anything spoiled but lack any semblance of self control to stop myself obsessively checking this thread.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
