I don't really get this either. I could understand people wanting to 'tick off' legendary groups like the Rolling Stones, or even The Who or someone like Prince. But 'ticking off' Adele?? Really?

In my experience the "ticking off" is more like "will give them a chance". Some bands / acts might not appeal to me enough to go and see them on their own tours but I'm up for being surprised. Like I've seen acts such as Beyonce and Metallica at Glastonbury, and all right they weren't great so I wandered off, but if they're there, why not? Might be good.

Others like Arcade Fire came out and did a way better than (I) expected show, though I would have been up for seeing them on tour.

I doubt I'd go see Adele, but who knows? The Mistress Glastonbury is a fickle lady.

It was my first festival 20 years ago and the headliners were Pulp and Paul Weller...

Me too! I was 13 and it was in my home town so my mum let me go on day tickets. Also saw elastica, longpigs, supergrass, sleeper and foo fighters (first album, from memory). Seeing Pulp felt like the start of my life or something.

Went for about four years after that before graduating to Reading. Saw Placebo, Prodigy, PJ Harvey, Manics, Iggy Pop, Green Day and James Brown in that time I think.

Fucking hell I'm old.

Anyway no to the Roses and Muse. I don'mind Adele having a go but what about Radiohead? What about them?

Also what do people think about the impact of Adele and Coldplay on resale day? Any?

I dont reckon headline announcements make much difference to resale day. If you want to go, you want to go and you'll be trying for tickets. I dont think people will be swayed one way or the other by just one act. (or a negligible amount anyway). The same people will try for resale tickets no matter who is announced between now and then.

Obviously I've nothing to back this up with...

Tick boxers - can't stand it.

Music is an emotional investment, the soundtrack to your life etc etc

Going to see someone just to say you've seen them, does my head in.

"I saw so and so at so and so" (what they don't tell you is it meant nothing to them).

Annoying.

I don't think any of these acts will impact resale day.  Resale day is simply not for the casuals who may be swayed by just one act - you need to have your shit together to have a chance.

Sometimes I think we forget how Glastonbury is perceived outside of this inner circle of die-hard enthusiasts.  A friend recently asked me when Glastonbury tickets would go on sale, and if they did an early bird discount...?  This was in January.

Although i normally would agree that headliners would have no impact on people wanting to go to glastonbury at all, usually if you want to go then you want to go regardless and try for a ticket. However i'm sure i read a lot of people last year (on social media granted) saying that once Kanye was announced that they wanted their money back and no longer wanted to go. Although that rhetoric is monumentally stupid there was a link between a "controversial" headliner and people not wanting to go. Personally IMO there are too many fucking idiots who don't realise that there are many options over who to go see and 1 act would never stop me from wanting to go.

Aren't you forgetting a certain female solo artist, Martin?

She is never far from my thoughts but I have to be realistic. My gut tells me they will offer her anything including free milk for life to play.

i'm the opposite. there's usually at least 4 or 5 acts playing that I want to see at any one time, especially at night.

checking out an act that i'm not that bothered with seems like a monumental waste of time for me when there's so much other stuff going on that I actually want to do/see.

Last year after Foo Fighters pulled out, there was no one that I "had to see." Because I was free to go where I wanted, I saw some of the best sets ever and probably had my best ever festival. No box ticking, no petitions and no tantrums.

Something I've learned from talking to people is that a significant proportion of those who go to the festival do it for the box ticking reason and several people I've talked to find it hard to believe that I would go more than once.  I think that for some it is a big part of who they are, being able to say "I've seen this/done that" without ever having explored anything to any depth, just ticking a box and moving on without really taking much in.

I'm an unashamed tick-boxer.  Even if it only confirms what you thought before, if you have the chance to check someone out (effectively for free) it seems daft not to.  In '04 I went to see Muse purely because I loved to hate them and came away (4 songs later) pretty impressed.  I'll never be an album buying fan but I chose to leave my whole group elsewhere and see them on my own in '10.  Excellent live band, just a pity I don't like very many of their songs.  I'll be giving them a miss if they show up this year though.  I feel like I've gotten all I'll get from them.

Kasabian was another box tick.  It seemed absurd in this time of them being at every festival everywhere for me NOT to have seen them.  So I went and they were good.  Not mind-blowing, but solid and we had fun.

Even Macca was a box ticker.  I had no interest, showed up late and I loved it.  Metallica also.

So I'll be giving Adele a punt an' all.

Anyone think Adele will have a load of special guests to help her out?

I think she would have to have special guests, 1. to give her a breather and 2. it would be incredibly dull otherwise. I could see her with a choir like Ray Davies and others have done.

So long as James Corden is not within 3500 km we will be OK.

Seeing James Corden on stage would challenge my long held beliefs on the throwing of urine.

Completely agree, one of the main attractions of Glastonbury is getting to see acts that wouldn't usually pay to see. I've been to see plenty of scts down the years just to see what they're like live and what the fuss is. Some I've loved, some I've hated and wandered off. If that makes me a box ticker then so be it.

Don't think so Russ?

I am envisaging at least 500,000 40-year-old mums at their computer screen on re-sale day if Adele is announced. Maybe I am being pessimistic :P

    • I read the Kerrang review and they didn’t seem overly positive. The definition of a 6 out of 10.
    • Interesting the stat guys say 3 points and -3 goal difference is where it gets to 50/50 territory in terms of going to the last 32. If Scotland lose their last 2 at best they are on -1, play like they did yesterday and they could take a heavy loss.   However thinking about it positively get 4 points from the last 2 games and the group is won! Have heard a few saying Scotland should just park the bus next 2 games, but not sure they have the players to do it. From my perspective they could really do with a decent defensive midfielder to add balance, but not sure if they have one in the squad. They also need significantly more from Mctominay who I thought was poor, but understand he has been unwell.
    • Yup and they aren't all going to get them, some are going to miss out. Speaking of this, I met someone at RIP who went to RFP and his view was band wise it's value for money but it wasn't a festival itself he'd be rushing to return to. In fairness as well he probably liked more of the headliners there than me this year whereas I was more undercard and he wasn't returning.
    • Maybe Starmer's legacy will be a war with Russia.
