Yep. I think there's a lot more cash to be made at your own show or at one of the big paying festivals, but its sad that any band would miss out on such an experience because 200,000 isn't enough cash for them.

I like the fact that Glastonbury has not followed the lead of other festivals and started offering massive paydays (relatively speaking!!!) which would lead to higher ticket prices and a weaker undercard.

it's not good for getting loads of peeps in and out quickly, and for the 'in' it ends up with the queues blocking a motorway (is it the A1(M)? I forget).

Noel Gallagher gets some stick on these forums. His music may be a little bland for some these days he seems to have a genuine love for playing live and music. He could reform Oasis tomorrow and go round getting big pay checks, yet he is happy doing his own thing.

His gob gets the better of him sometimes but it is refreshing to see he is not just a money grabber.

Must say I saw the MSG advert and immediately thought about them headlining, or even opening up the festival on the Other Stage on Friday morning? What an event that would be.

I only went to one Sonisphere (2011) and it seemed okay for entry and exit, but you could see how it could get seriously snarled up with the slightest error in management/accident.

Everyone is struggling to see where Muse/Radiohead/Adele and Coldplay all fit in, then there's suggestions of Stone Roses as well on here! I think they will probably play one day, and if there's some serious new music it might even be next year. It won't be this year though, not with the money they will be taking elsewhere. 

People really need to let go of that Friday Other Stage opener slot. It is what it is. Look at the bands who have done the slot in recent years. They are not gonna put a massive act that stage at that time in the morning, especially with everyone finding out who is playing before the festival.

Alan - you've made a couple of statements of fact there, without any reason or rationale to back them up - not saying you're wrong, but could you explain how you arrive at the conclusion? Why wouldn't they put a massive act on The Other Stage on Friday

morning? (Genuinely interested in reasoning, not having a go!)

You could have someone on bigger than they've had, but they could never have a headliner size act doing it. They wouldn't put a headliner size act on the Other stage on Friday morning because it would be utter carnage. It's dangerous and unrealistic.

You (& Alan) might be right - but my (limited) experience of that time of day was that half the festival were still in their tents. I accept that may change if a major act was known about - but I still think there's be a significant percentage of Thursday night casualties to factor in.....

I don't for a minute think The Stone Roses are gonna headline it, as much as I want them to but it just seems criminal to me that they're destined not to do it. Such an important/iconic band, new music on the way by all accounts and the perfect gap in the schedule yet by apparently they're opting for a band who've done it twice already, Coldplay on their 4th outing and Adele.

I have no interest in Adele at all but I completely understand why they want to book her. The other two is mind boggling, safe/easy bookings. I don't buy the ££ thing for a second. They wouldn't be demanding any more than The Stones/U2 etc for me, especially given how much they'll be making off the dates at city.

I am very bias as there's nothing I'd love to see more but I find it mind boggling that they apparently aren't in the running..

traffic arrival is more spread out for a festival than it is a big gig, and that makes a big difference to the congestion.

The capacity of the Other stage field is a lot smaller than most people think and if an act like the Stone Roses are on at 11am, people will be there regradless of how early it is. Not to mention there would be no competition on the other stages.

This Stone Roses issue is possibly the longest running moot point so far this year.

The reality of this is the only reason Stone Roses haven't been booked will be because of their fee, so they aren't gonna pay them a fortune to open the Other Stage, and the band won't agree to do that slot for cheaper.

The old Wembley had quite a few acts play 3-4 nights - I think the record is Michael Jackson at 5 in a row.

Last year a group camped near us sent out one of their group on a mission to find out who the surprise Other act was. She came back and announced.

"Don't bother! It's The Charltons!"

Visions of Bobby and Jackie leading the crowd, cider in hand, to a rousing chorus of Fog On The Tyne sounded tempting but we declined.

Last year if I remember, the suggestion on here was Blur opening the Other Stage, and the year before that it was Prince.

The Stone Roses are never ever going to sub anyone ever. They either headline their own shows or headline what ever festival they play.

They also said no to supporting New Order as well. Off the top of my head here but I can't actually remember them subbing or supporting anyone.

They didn't headline Coachella the second time.

Pretty sure there was a couple of scandinavian fests they weren't on last too either.
