A very quick look online shows NME.com to be in the top 7000 most popular websites globally and in the top 5000 in the UK. Figures from 2015...if I've read them correctly.

Suprisingly, perhaps(?), most of it's visitors are from the US.

Just for comparison - and efests gets waaay less visitors than nme - efests gets into the top 1000 UK sites during its busier months (not all year round).

So I reckon NME is likely to be in the top 200 in the UK.

To be fair, the paper edition has pretty much always been click bait anyway, from long before the term click bait existed.

Write something about all the popular bands, whether there was a reason to write about them, or not. If there was nothing to write about, invent a whole new 'scene' thing as something to write about in a sensational way as a way to fill up pages. Have a few hates, and stick the knife in regularly.

Like many others, I'm sure, I was pretty smitten with NME as a kid when I discovered music (41 now) and I've convinced myself it was 'good back then'. Tail end of the hip young gun slingers era. I pestered hard to do work experience there as an 18 year old with the added advantage of already doing work experience on the next floor of Kings Reach Tower with Shoot magazine. I got 2 weeks - Steve Sutherland / early-Britpop / fued with MM era - managed another month on top of that compiling the gig guide (mostly by hand...open letter, read flyer, type it out) 'cos the lady who did it was seriously ill - and, christ, the writers on the whole were fucking a-holes. Art department - top people, really welcoming and inclusive, 70% of the writers were bellends though. Happy to make the work experience 'kids' look a dick. With the advent of the 'net around the end of that time there was a feeling it was gonna die a slow death even among those there.

I also saw The Unthanks. Proper goosebumps stuff. Didn't get to see either of CB's sets though, sadly.

But I totally understand how you can become alienated from a band you once loved - I used to adore Smashing Pumpkins and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and now, I can't believe how they've changed for the worst and largely abandoned what made them so good in the first place.

Jesus, didn't even notice that was missing. They play all the terrible shit, even The Globalist, and miss at the one track that would be actually fun live. Bleak stuff.

However,  don't think you can blame Barnett's crummy performance on the sound.

Having seen her twice that day, I think it was a combo, CG. She was just not on the money in terms of performance on Pyramid. Having been so excited to see her for the fist time, after loving the double-EP and her first LP, I was a bit disappointed by the reediness of her sound, the band replacing the warm fullness of the records with a stripped-back grunginess that didn't carry the melodic nature of the songs, nor the witticism of Courtney's lyrics. The main problem? I think she needed another guitarist to carry the rhythm parts of the songs when she was playing the melody riffs on lead.

But, when compared to the crystal clear sound of The Unthanks (my first ever Pyramid act - I was blownn away by the sound quality...), the set up for Courney was bloody awful! Later that day in Williams Green, her three-piece were much better, tighter, more up for it. That grungy sound was a better fit for WG compared to the vastness of Pyramid. Still think they would be better as a four-piece, mind...

Sorry, Badlands, I don't know. I do like The Unthanks quite a lot, but am not familiar enough with song titles to know what they played. What I do know is that they were sublime...sorry!

See, I much prefer CB live, it's a lot more thrashy and ragged than the recorded stuff. Less tame, more scruffy. And god knows, a ragged scruffiness is close to my heart.

I agree with all of that. When I saw her supporting Metronomy at Ally Pally she did have a second guitarist and I thought it was a big improvement. When I saw her at the forum a couple of weeks back she had either an offstage guitarist or recorded backing parts and again sounded considerably better. Best of the 6 or 7 times I've seen her, in fact.

It's not one of their own, but they covered it when they performed with the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band. It's stunning. By far the best song you'll hear about Pigeon Racing today. I thought they may have played it what with them having an extended band.

Coldplay are all but nailed on.

GF Senior Booker saying that close to getting Adele and she ain't playing anywhere but top of the Pyramid.

Too many rumours of Muse, no smoke without fire etc....

Love to see it be ACDC but it's very unlikely imho.

Ah, I'm personally a big Muse fan and can't justify the ~£70 they're charging for the arena gigs, so hoping they're at the farm. Of the 3 headliners we think it's gonna be, Muse seem the obvious one for AC/DC to replace and for me that would be a disaster so didn't want to get my hopes up for Muse without good reason. Cheers!

Reapers has only been dropped once I think so hopefully it was a one off.

Wouldn't put money on Resistance and Feeling Good being played. Until the current arena tour they weren't in the setlists so hopefully they piss off soon.

T2L stadium tour was brilliant, but yeah other than Survival and Animals the T2L songs are naff live. As are most songs from the Resistance. For me they were at their worst on the Resistance arena tour. Although the worst show I've seen from the was Big Weekend, as I expected it to be tbf.

SMBH, Starlight, PiB and Knights will probably be played, yeah, but I love them all live except Starlight anyway so that's alright. Wouldn't be so confident of Hysteria; it's been missing a lot in recent years, unfortunately. 

I think the crowd totally ruined the OOS at Leeds tbh

This was the setlist at Manchester Eithad stadium in 2013 and I thought this was the best Muse gig I've ever been too (although the small gig at Manchester academy earlier this year was pretty cool too ) but I like 2nd law songs.... I'd be happy with Muse at Glastonbury but wish it was Foos instead
