Usually it's drinking and wandering for me but this year I'll be doing something specific. Lost 2 close friends this year in the space of 4 months and one would have loved Glastonbury. It sounds a bit kitsch but at the youngest's funeral, we were each given a commemorative pebble with her name to take somewhere special. So I'll either be heading to the Dragon on Weds afternoon and dropping the stone in the pool or digging a little hole and burying it up by the Glastonbury sign. Either way, i'll be having a little sob in all likelihood, a G&T, big fat cigar and sit with my thoughts for an hour or so.

And then it's on like donkey kong for the rest of the festival!

I'm sorry to hear that, Keithy. I'll bet she'd love for her pebble to find its home on Worthy Farm. You're a good friend to take time out of your experience to do that for her. The kind of friend I've no doubt she was privileged to have while she was on this side of reality.

1st beer as put tent up. Once this is down sit in a chair with a second beer looking around thinking 'I'm home'. Watch people arrive and take it all in. Have a look at the programme.

Off for a bimble getting my bearings on anything that has changed. Work out where are fave food places are. Eventually end up at flag topia have a nice sit down and chat with friends.

Usually end up at the Bimble Inn for a few.

Normal procedure is arrive on site about midday. Pitch tent. Walk round finding mates few beers etc, end up in SE corner with best mate and forget to go to bed. Get back to tent in time for Cham08 junior to wake up and endure the Thursday from hell.

Just me the mrs and kid this year though so hopefully wont go too mad on the Wednesday.

The fireworks at the Stone Circle were BRILLIANT last year!

Yeah, I always seem to catch these each year now even though I'm trashed by then - not intentional; just seem to have made it up to around there at the time they start setting them off....

Arrive site tuesday (campervan field) have BBQ and pissup with the neighbors and who ever else is friendly around the area.

Wednesday walk in feeling smug that we have already partied one night and we have no baggage to lug across site, hit the green fields and avalon fields for drinking, eating and shopping, buy some strange things, meet up with our glastonbury friends who drink in the same bar wednesday every year, get smashed, then go to a disco dance till 4am stagger back up the hill of death and try and workout which motorhome is ours.

Get in for doors open on Weds, set up in same place by pyramid, crack open the beers and chill out at the tents until early afternoon then we head on team wonder over to the park, up to the flags, then over to the stones for the night before getting my head down at a fairly sensible hour knowing that we've got a long old slog of partying ahead!

Arrive in CV East, fill the water tanks, cousins have got the curry on, finish setting up, then beer and cocktails, be too excited to read the programme, get wristband, bimble, meet up with friends, see the site, book booze in the lockup, party, sleep. Wow, big smile on my face, on this delayed crowded train.

First Glastonbury so weds will probably be - panic not got enough/ right clothes,

Get lost at least once on route and not end up where I need to be (wv),

Then look across the site and at the map and think f*** where do I start?

Take shitloads of socks. You can never have too many. Take wellies. Clothes wise, not much else is needed really. 4/5 t-shirts. A coat and 2 pairs of shorts. Done

And buy a hat.

Really like the Wednesday and just wandering round and revisiting the old familiar sites.

As there isn't too much entertainment on do find the stone circle and Park Hill have got a bit "touristy" and crowded on the Wednesday night now, so tend to go more in the Greenfields, Avalon, Bella's Field and Williams Green areas of an evening on the first night, where there are bits and pieces of entertainment going on

Find our spot. Open that amazingly refreshing first beer (before it becomes body temp). Load up the rucksack with more beers and head on a walkabout. Usually end up at the park hill or the one next to it (with all the tepees?) have food, stock up on more beers, check out the South east corner before the chaos of Friday and Saturday night then end the night up on stone circle.

Fuck im excited.

And if you're going for a shorts/wellie combo make sure at least one of those pairs of socks is a long one.

Wow, big smile on my face, on this delayed crowded train.

When I'm about to kill my self due to packed trains that are consistently late due to petty little faults in the incompetent train service that our country provides I just think about the delight Glasto brings to me and many others, and just thinking I'll be there on the Wednesday enjoying myself and thinking about bands I'm gunna see, new places I'll discover and new people that I'll meet.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
