Right, so now the writings on the wall, who first predicted The Who, and on what page?

Edit:

1054, and not even a serious suggestion.

I predicted the who when they just announced they were going to do this tour as it was said even before the dates were announced it was possibly their last. It was more out of blind hope though

Sorry, is it actually The who?

It its them and the Chems it's exactly the same choice as 07 (definitely different weather!). X

I hope you don't mind, but I made a minor alteration to your post.

I think it's a disgusting move from the band, and even put some blame on the festival organisers for dangling the carrot for the possibility of this ever to happen in the first place.

Bands do this sort of thing on a fairly regular basis, its hardly the end of the world for the french fans is it?

Damn, I missed out by 24 hours. Although mine was a serious suggestion

A band that seems to have dropped off the radar of people's thinking on here for Sunday headliner, who's tour dates fit around Glastonbury perfectly, legendary in every sense of the word.

The Who

Yes, it goes against the "Foos are the big rock act this year" quote from Emily but apart from that I can't see any reason why they shouldn't be listed as a possibility for the Sunday night especially with some of the other names being bandied about.

Another part of me is hoping that the ambiguous quote "unlikely to be this month" is that they are waiting for IoW to sell out before announcing Fleetwood Mac as the Sunday headliner therefore getting around the exclusive deal. But that is pure wishful thinking and the most unlikely of scenarios going around.

Other than that I would settle for Prince or E.L.O.

ok so how sure are we that its definitly `the who`.......I mean at least twice people have been `definitly sure` a certain act would be annouced.....until they were ruled out(coldplay, blur, prince etc)....what makes this rumour different?

We were only "definitely" sure it was Coldplay through getting ahead of ourselves, nobody was ever "definitely" sure it was Blur or Prince and indeed I don't believe I've read anyone claim that it's definitely 100% The Who - tho they'd have good reason to, with the series of events of the last few days.

Because Neil has heard enough to make them a TBC - good enough for me

Oh how I long for the days of reading too much into this quote. Unless Giddings is a massive fan of Kanye its unlikely we'll ever know who was booked to cause this statement, sad face :(

It's unlikely he knew who was booked either. Just onme of many throwaway quotes that people jumped on and convinced themselves it was a clue.

So then, does this thread die now?

As we have a repeat of The Who & The Chems from '07, what are the chances of a top notch comedian closing in Glebeland again? Bill Bailey again? Tim Minchin anyone?

"Put the umbrellas down!"

sorry but not for me.......same guy who had coldplay down as `definitly` headlining....so much so even the media picked it up........if thats all there is im not putting anymore creedance on the rumour then any other

How about confirmation that the clashing date has been cancelled, a couple of days after The Sun and Neil claim they are headlining?

We do have a system for Rs, SRs, and TBCs so some rumours are more likely to have better credibility than others. Yes Coldplay was incorrect, and Neil usually says he cannot be 100% certain (plus plans can change), but historically TBCs are

a lot more likely than Rs.

For it not to be correct they would need to be changing the Paris dates for a reason other than glasto and both the Sun

and Neil fed incorrect info about it. That is possible but seems unlikely.

How about Blur followed by The Who?

Dave Rowntree in both denials has said that they aren't headlining.

You can't top Glastonbury said Giddings and that would be one hell of a finish

No it won't be that.

And that Giddings quote is a red Herring given that headliners-wise IOW clearly has topped Glastonbury this year

Oh come on. All the other TBC's that this site gets right and because of one that was wrong you're discounting any that you don't like. Plus the story in the Sun, plus the Paris gigs being rearranged. It's The Who.

What makes it different is that ME stated that it was a big band people would be happy with (suggesting a large heritage act), that there was a performance that needed to be rearranged before it could be announced and that the organisers of the Paris gig have indeed reorganised that performance. While the source that broke the story is the kind of lying scum publication who you should pay no heed to, this time they are clearly correct.

Pete Townshend was cleared of all charges.

compete bull.

He admitted his guilt and was given an official caution.

There was absolutely zero evidence of him downloading child pornography of any sort.

there was evidence of him subscribing to a child porn site. Before he was raided he knew the police had evidence of him subscribing to a child porn site.

So it's not really surprising they found no child porn. If he'd been accessing child porn he had ample time to dispose of the evidence. We don't know either way if he had evidence to dispose of.

He was put on the offender's register purely as a precaution.

he was put on the sex offenders register because he admitted his guilt of a child sex offence.

But we do love a witch hunt in this country don't we!

Merely the truth and only the truth. See my comments for the truth. ;)

You're absolutely right. But making assumptions like that could ruin a lot of innocent people's lives.

We have "innocent until proven guilty" in this country for a reason.

Pete Townsend was not innocent.

He admitted his guilt, and was given a caution because he admitted his guilt.

(you cannot get a caution unless you do admit your guilt).

Of course, it's unfathomably stupid! No-one's denying that. Seriously, what was he thinking!

And that's the point. What WAS he thinking?

We know what he says he was thinking (tho some of what he's claimed was proven factually false, and other parts of the story have changed each time he tells it).

We don't know what he was thinking. Perhaps he was thinking "I can get myself off on some child porn".

Some people who claim innocence or other reasons are not telling the truth, while others do tell the truth.

    • Jack White a shout for next year? New album out soon.
    • Steven Wilson Jr touring would be a good fit.   Brian Fallon (Gaslight Anthem) as he’s touring too next year.   Royston Club. Kingfshr. Bleachers. Spacey Jane. Gang Of Youths. Overpass
    • 90,000 on a single for day or over the weekend?   if it was for the whole weekend that’s disastrous   Given camping didn’t sell out unless they in effect transferred a lot of camping captivity to Chappell Roan day tickets 90,000 is absolute capacity there I think, so it would be hard to believe   i think it’s from the year before but the TPD tv footage when the killers are headlining makes it look like it’s at best half full
    • A part of me thinks weirdly they might hold off on Chaka/Robbie until they have a year where nobody else who fits the bill is available. This slot takes a very specific set of criteria, and I can't imagine they're flushed with options who are on tour and would take the smaller payday every year. Both Chaka and Robbie have expressed interest in doing it, so they're bankers for a year where fewer options are available. Which may well be 2027.
