they don't care about who might know what, they only care that the bets are well-spread so they can sure of making a profit.

There's some truth to that, but it over-simplifies the whole process.

The other half of the game is maximising profit; making Fleetwood Mac as attractive as 12-1 might lure enough money early to make it very hard to ever balance the books again, especially on such a small market.

Hello

Long time lurker who has just had a thought!

I know people might not think they are big enough anymore but how about The Strokes. On the 4th of March they said no to playing on twitter, but considering they might be struggling to find a 3rd headliner, do we think they are waiting so the BST sells out? (if it does). Was also thinking that this is why Beck has also not been announced??

Thoughts????

Such disappointing line-up this year when you consider some of the bands that COULD have played. Think it's the weakest I can remember in the past 10 years ?

Far too much R&B and pop music, is it not supposed to be a rock festival? Where are all the British bands that have hit the mainstream in the last 12 months ?

Must have been Emily Eavis' turn to pick the bands this year, she's certainly succeeding in turning the whole Festival into the Park Stage.

I will still have a great time regardless, just a bit annoying when you consider the quality of the 2013 & 2014 lineups.

LOL sorry guys, seem to have struck a nerve with some people, 'Rock Festival' was certainly the wrong term to use. I basically meant there is a lack of guitar bands compared to previous years.

I know I shouldn't moan, it's still the best place to be on Earth for that weekend, I just expected a bit more, I cant be the only 33 year old glasto veteran who thinks this ?

Dance music & R&B are more popular right now. I mean Kanye West is probably one of the most talked about person in the tabloids & the charts are full of stuff like Clean Bandit.

Yeh I just suppose I just have issues with some of the chart 'music' at the moment...definitely getting old haha.

Hopefully the John Peel tent throw sup some surprises anyway (Slaves would be amazing), last year we had Royal Blood and the Temples playing there. They could have easily handled a bigger stage this year.

There's a good 12 bands on there that are 'rock/guitar' based. Go listen to Death From Above, Wolf Alice, Farther John Misty, The Maccabees (not everyones liking). Then go look at who is TBC and look at bands like Slaves.

EDIT Just realised your post above, we have pretty similiar music taste in terms of rock, but I also like a lot of electronic music. No idea where Temples are but Royal Blood are exclusive to Reading.

No you're right, you just badly worded your original post ;)

There are loads of "smash hits poll winners party" type acts on that poster that are a complete load of shit.

But when we see the full line up they will be diluted hopefully but many more good acts.

It's just a sign of the times. As more c**ts attend the festival, there will be more acts booked that appeal to c**ts.

I guess it's possible. They fit the "other shows" bit.

It's pretty guitar heavy, I don't know what more you expected. You've got Patti Smith, The Vaccines, The Maccabees, Suede, Super Furry Animals, Wolf Alice, Fat White Family, FFS, Modestep, Circa Waves, Peace, The Moody Blues, Courtney Barnett, Foo Fighters, Alt-J, Motorhead, Alabama Shakes, The Waterboys, The Fall, Jamie T, Death From Above 1979, The Pop Group and Catfish & The Bottlemen out of only a small fraction of line-up. There's more rock than anything else.

Who's ruled out from that paddy power list. Just Elton and Florence?

If you are betting from PP just it can only really be Blur, everyone else is out surely?

Edit: I may have a tipple on Radiohead at 14s, I don't think it'll be Blur but the vibes from this forum made 5s far too big for me to avoid

do you think there might be anything to the fact that there is real lack of crossover between BST and Glasto this year

OK strokes were billed as exclusives, but might have expected one or some of

Beck

Grace Jones

Chic

Kylie

Blur

Taylor Swift

on the line up. maybe they have agreed not to announce BST acts yet (with one of them - probably Blur- as third headliner) as BST is selling is not selling well?

With Florence under them it does not seem such a weak booking. I would like to see them do it, as they are one band i have never managed to catch anywhere.

Is Flo under them? Most people seem to think Alt-J will be Sunday's sub (I don't know either way).

But if she were, that would only show up how weak I reckon.

Yeh I didn't mean to cause an argument as everyone has different music tastes

But compare those bands on the poster to the last 3/4 Glastonbury's, this is kind of why I mentioned it.

Typically Glasto has been aimed at the 'older' crowd, or at least you get that impression when walking around the site. Chart music has never really been a factor, always about the quality of the bands and how they sounded live.

Times are changing though I suppose.

most of the lineup is guitar bands.

maybe you just don't have a clue who most of the acts are?

I originally agreed with this logic. However .... Future Islands are playing BST and are on the glasto lineup.

I think BST may try and sign the main support band as an 'exclusive' also, hence why there is no Beck. Very similar situation to The National playing BST under Neil Young last year and surprisingly not playing glasto.
