Metallica 2014

I'm actually hoping that he's there. He's the sort of poppy, dancey (shite) act that would certainly provide a real alternative to Metallica, and would probably attract a lot of the younger crowd. And let's face it, he's bound to show up somewhere, so if he does so while I'm watching Metallica then he doesn't waste a slot :)

If by a young crowd you mean 12-15 year olds then he'll have them. I don't know a single person my age who's a fan of his.

Why the fuck would Lorde even headline The Park stage? She's got one song!!

Her album's been really successful and I'd imagine she'd get a big crowd. I'd give it a miss personally but I think it would give a good alternative to Metallica, perhaps she's only big enough to sub it but the point still stands.

Agree with this, can't say i'm overly interested in Metallica but i'd rather sit through them on the Main Stage then Example. Would love Jamie T to make a surprise comeback and headline a stage, heres hoping!

I put that before you added the bit about skrillex. I meant why just the other in response to Still debating in my head whether or not I want to go and see Metallica, I'm not a fan but I can imagine they'd put on a hell of a show. We'll just wait and see what's going on on the Other :).

Ohhh I didn't get what you were saying. I think I said I'd check out the Other because I've been half expecting Disclosure to be playing quite high up and I'm definitely going to try to see them. Obviously there's a tonne of other stuff to do instead as well though :).

People who I could say confidently that they don't like Example from my circles would be probably 30-40 people. All have a range of music tastes though.

It's not a massive group. I would think that even though none of your friends like him there are still some people your age that do like him.

She's not big enough to sub other. She will be lucky if she subs JPT. Best bet is a high park slot.

The Lords of Summer bores me, as has every album they've released since Master of Puppets, although some of them have their moments (it'll be brilliant to see One live) but the first 3 albums are brilliant, so unless another stage pulls something special out of the bag, I'll be at Metallica

Some of the logic leaps in this thread have been wonderful. Folk are now "too Other Stage" and "too Pyramid". Also, Nutini predicted to have the biggest album of the year. Aye. When Coldplay have a new album in May. Who the f**k is predicting that?

Lets stop pretending like we know who's suited to a certain stage.

Can't believe they still in talks with prince

I don't believe they are, but there's the suggestion that the offer has been left hanging.

I know Prince phoned up a festival that had been after him 3 days before it started to say he'd headline if they still wanted him (they didn't), so perhaps Glasto are hoping for something similar - tho things are likely to get difficult with moving acts around at a late stage and demoting an act from being headliner, so I'm not sure I could see Glasto waiting for too long.

The only thing which seems to make it plausible would be if Metallica are playing but aren't able to be announced, and if they wouldn't be bothered about what stage they played so that Prince could be accommodated.

Tell him to do one. He's had his chance. He needs to know he's not above the festival... not that he'll care!

As for Metallica subs... NIN? Not announced any UK festivals yet. Neither have Placebo actually, despite announcing several around Europe.

Who would sub Metallica? Perhaps QOTSA or Biffy, although Biffy may now be beyond the level of subbing festivals after Reading and Leeds last summer.

Perhaps someone a bit rocky without making the line-up too heavy, like The Strokes.

Would that not mean the other stage sub headliner needs to be fairly big to step up

    • I'm surprised they risked it, especially after nearly missing their Glasto 22 slot under similar circumstances  I did see someome say Ellie didnt sound as strong as recently but I'm guessing playing 3 shows in 2 different continents doesnt help that    On the topic though I can definitely see them doing a Fontaines and having a break over winter before a few final Clearing shows next summer
    • That's fair on WA - I did recall people thinking Fontaines would take this year off before this was announced.    On the subject of Wolf Alice, they did Lollapalooza in Chicago on Saturday then Kendal Calling last night. Bit of an odd choice, no? Half imagine at Kendal that they would've been just exhausted.
    • Just logged onto the app to start planning my days and there really are a LOT of stages missing. Apart from the Seaside Stage there is no Casemates this year etc. Apart from the Seaside Stage, there are no Casemates this year, etc. Can't see anything about the kids field really. And there's local acts that are normally there like Kojak's Revenge that aren't appearing either.  Normally we get down fairly early but I can't see anything before 3pm I'm keen to see. Only one real clash as well, which is good, but it's thin and it's not thin in the sense of "I've seen a lot of these acts before"
