For Pulp most likely meaning of unusual is a) stripped back (cynically also equals cheaper) or b) another new album played in full (15 months between albums isn't impossible)

I think it means more deep cuts than standard festival shows. They have dropped the odd rarity into the ‘smaller’ and broadcast shows since reforming. But it could be a combination of all these. Hammersmith Apollo in ‘23 was ended with an acoustic new song.

Is The Cure as the secret headliner completely out the question?

This heavy stressing of 'unusual' I think means more than just some deep cuts.

And yes completely out the question.

Anyone need 4 tickets for Pulp @ Wythenshaw? As I hit “buy” yesterday I said to my wife “this means they will play eotr”! Their wording about “likely” and “Northern” should have told me to wait to hit go on the Pulp tix. Could be the earliest Twickets listing for a show ever!

edit: tried to list them on Twickets, but can’t until after the main sale tomorrow!

I doubt it - they did hammersmith apollo a couple of years back just after finsbury park - i expected stripped back - but they did the full show, staging etc.

Swift sales after this announcement, which I suppose is the point of doing it so early. Also faster sellout for 2027 when the Pulp fans realise how great a festival it is. Possibly followed by a glut of tickets for resale when they realise it isn't usually a 90s nostalgia fest. These headliners aren't to my taste, but there will be a lot that is. And there's no denying it's a real coup.

I do hope noone is buying a £300 ticket just to see Pulp when they’ve had ample opportunity to see them elsewhere for cheaper

it’ll mainly sell out quicker than usual cos no glasto, normal service will resume next year I’m sure…

Bought my ticket before any of the lineup was released for the first time. Been 8 times before but not since 2018 so really excited and already feeling justified! Can't wait to see the rest of the lineup and to be back on the site again.

its the only uk festival date, and for some it could be better to do this festival than Manchester...

I’d be pretty miffed if it was stripped back set or a whole album playthrough tbh, call me old fashioned but festival headline sets are for playing the hits!

"Stripped back" in the current context would probably mean without the extra bells and whistles (strings, backing vocalists, etc) they added just for the current tour. So basically would mean a more traditional / authentic version of Pulp.

Aside from which, I don't care if they're not the hits, I want to hear We Love Life damnit. It's almost criminal that they've got an album that good in their back pocket, and most of it never gets an airing.

Some of us are old enough to have seen them when they toured it. Those songs (Sunrise and Weeds aside) did not really hit. Still a good album though.

Can't wait for this upcoming nine months of argument about what "unusual" means, especially as there already seems to be people criticising something that we have no idea about what it is.

Saying you hope it’s not X is not the same as criticising it.

Something has to replace the 'is (x) big enough to headline the festival' chat. Commercially, everyone seems to feel they've nailed it for next year

Seen a few posts from Pulp fans complaining about the price of the festival at £300, yet they've paid £75 for not even half a day at Wythenshawe. Must've been too sorted back in the day! 😄
