They occasionally get Wembley arena sized bands ( Sigur Ros just before their arena tour) but i think Ally Pally is their realistic limit.

Yes, My Bloody Valentine are not too big per se, they played Royal Festival Hall & Apollo on the last tours. However, they will not play a one-off festival.

Am I allowed to hope for Sugar? I know they are just reformed, but they have already released a single with an album no doubt to follow. I don't want to get on the wrong side of the heritage act police. Please advise.

I'd be surprised if they do any European festivals this year.

This will be more divisive than Mac Demarco, but I'm thinking there's a likelihood of The Last Dinner Party headlining. Played before where Abigail said she used to go as a punter and was quoted on last year's press releases; Simon said a couple of years ago that Brixton Academy level is what he looks for in a headliner and they're doing two nights there with one sold out; likely won't be playing the corporate circuit as they did a few Superstruct festivals this year and had problems with Truck before pulling out of Victorious in solidarity with the Mary Wallopers; will be seen as elevating a new female headliner.

Already booked for Azkena Rock in Spain in June. I'm sure there will be more (though I realise that doesn't make them any more likely for EotR).

Oh, hadn't seen that. I suppose it's about whether there really is an album coming that will decide whether they return to Europe after the May/June dates, as American bands that are over at the start of summer do quite often come back over at or towards its end too.

For lower down the bill, Simon seems to get Best Fit's input for a few bookings each year. Ryan Davis, Good Looks, Greg Freeman all played this last year. There's usually a few names who come back for August/Sept. Fust is Americana so should be one. Madra Salach as Irish alt folk stands a good chance. I reckon Rabbitfoot, Morn, Truthpaste and Theatre look a decent fit, too.

Blood orange as a potential headliner? He has just been announced as a headliner for Rally festival the week before and they often share acts.

Also Bill Callahan just announced a new record so wouldn't be surprised to see him on the lineup

Blood orange festival exclusive for rally

aren't they doing just that at primavera next year?

edit: hope that doesn't come across as moody cos I personally think there's 0% chance of them showing up here

    • We head out in the morning. Couple of nights in New York then up to Boston. Enjoy the games lads and hopefully we get some great football to take our minds off the whole shitshow off the pitch.
    • White Stripes/QotSA at Harewood 2007, Tramlines (and Blue Dot, same weekend) in '23, and Elbow at Jodrell Bank '13.
    • Yeah exactly, the shock moments, group layouts, etc all end up playing out differently once you get into the tournament. However you tweak it, you don't predict shocks.
