Queen would be a controversial booking and I don't think it would be met with unanimous support by a long chalk.

That's interesting.... what makes you think that?  I know Brian May and Michael Eavis don't see eye-to-eye, but when last asked about playing Glastonbury, Brian May said he wouldn't rule it out any more.  Personally, I reckon the Pyramid would be packed for Queen, if only for people wanting to be there for Bohemian Rhapsody... in the same way so many wanted to "be there for Hey Jude".

Taylor Swift isn't in the Top 10 artists of all time, but Rihanna is?!

Neither of them are even close to being in the top 10 artists of all time regardless of sales, Spotify or whatever else. Yet again we have a blinkers on “music was invented in the 21st century” or some other such nonsense.

Oh and Queen without Freddie is nonsense

My thoughts too. Younger people may not know who Neil Young is but they’ll all know how to do the Radio GaGa handclap

Indeed!  Taylor currently 14th... Rihanna 8th.  This is an interesting list... especially from a Glasto headlining POV!

Try organising that list by actual certified units rather than 'claimed' sales.

Changes things a little (no a lot.)

It's probably fair enough to adjust for less reliable record keeping in the 50s and 60s.

Yep... Neither of those figures / columns are reliable.

For example, with the certified units, the UK units are only calculated back to the 70s (the US is the 50s)

But with claimed sales, there's obviously no way to verify those. And direct comparisons are unfair anyway, given the changes in how music is consumed.

Oh indeed... not taking anything on there as gospel... just used it a while back to remind myself of the biggest selling artists, and to work out who was an "older"/legendary (ie broad universal appeal) act, was still going in some form, and hasn't played Glastonbury.  There didn't seem to be many acts left who fitted that criteria!  (I don't include Swift, Rihanna, even Eminem etc as "older" acts... others might though!)

I think the easiest way to rank artists by comparable size is to ask me. So Queen are dreadful bollocks that nobody beyond the age of twelve should be listening to, Taylor Swift is a load of old toot, and Cattle Decapitation are woefully underestimated by today's record buying public. More soon 👍

Oh, I wasn't necessarily saying that Taylor would be (as much as I love her), but to say that Rihanna would be above her on any metric is absolutely ridiculous. And that she would be in top 10 artists of all time!

I saw Queen with Adam Lambert in Perth in 2020 (just before Covid) and I was disappointed tbh. Nobody wants to hear a 5 minute drum solo or a 10 minute guitar solo. Adam Lambert is a great singer but also rather annoying.

There's some videos on YouTube or Queen with Tom Chaplin (of Keane fame) and I would see that... with Adam Lambert again I'm not so sure.

I was in Perth and they were playing btw, I didn't fly to Australia to watch them.

This has been part of their shows since day one.

What metric or list do you think we should use?

Or should we just choose the ones we feel?

    • Absolutely love her record, System. Definitely an album that rewards a bit of commitment.   She's right on my must-see list. Hoping she's in the Walled Garden, as I think her sound might be a bit muddy if she's early-ish in Far Out.   Ben
    • Same here, I kept trying to go on A View From My Seat to see if each block was worth it. So vague!
    • Ok, I’ve had time to process the experience now, so here is my review.   The good Barcelona - what a beautiful place! What lovely people! The city was like another headliner. Stayed in El Poblenou, and the bars, cafes and restaurants were perfect. Avalanches - Absolutely spectacular, euphoric set. Fantastic stage. Possibly enhanced by substances that I timed right, for a change. Added bonus that I don’t really remember the queue. The Cure - I’ve been a fan for 34 years, and never got round to seeing them, so this was a dream come true. The XX - The sound was exceptional. The lights and setlist perfect, giving each member their moment. Was really loud where I was standing (between the front and the sound desk), but i didn’t notice any chatters - even during the quieter moments. Also loved Men I Trust, .bd. , Big Thief, NewDad and Gorillaz. The food within Parc Del Fòrum was also a lot better than I was expecting.   The bad People talking non-stop throughout some of the sets, and shouting to be heard over the music. I had to move 3 times during Wet Leg just to be able to hear the band over the crowd. It’s probably an age thing, but I just don’t understand it. You’ve paid how much to watch these acts, and now you’re standing with your back to the stage, missing the music and ruining the experience for everyone else? Odd behaviour.   The weather apocalypse on Thursday. I genuinely thought I would be able to tough it out. I couldn’t. Left after Geese. The lack of communication from Primavera didn’t help.   Whilst it was lovely to be by the sea, and the sunsets were very pretty, the site is a bit…concrete-y, isn’t it? I kind of longed for some grass and trees. Often found ourselves standing on the steps by the Adidas yard by some bamboo. This was probably a subconscious need for some nature. The fact that some of the nature included cockroaches did not negatively affect the experience.   My daughter, for running away when she saw the drug dogs in the queue on Thursday, meaning that I lost her for the whole evening. She hid her stash under a bench, and it miraculously survived the storms.   Also, can someone explain the point in having a wristband, when you still have to show your ticket every time you enter and leave the site?   Finally, I would like to nominate myself as one of the bad things about this year’s Primabera. I should have done Primavera a lot better. It was my first one, so I’m still learning, but I think I left too early on the Thursday. Left after the Cure on Friday, so I would be full of energy on Saturday, and then barely made it to the end of Gorillaz anyway, meaning I missed Overmono, Skrillex, Skullcrusher, Kneecap, and a few more I would have liked to see.   All in all Amazing lineup. Decent food options. Cupra and Cupra Pulse stages were very impressive. Weather was perfect for 3 out of the 4 days i attended.   It was always likely to be a ‘one and done’ for me, but we had a blast, even if I am starting to get too old for all this.
    • That Wednesday Razzmatazz slot is one of the best/prime slots!
    • If they fancy chucking something together last knockings, i'm up for it! 😄 Got to get a cat sitter, but i'm 95% there
