Guns N’ Roses Concert Setlist at Eden Park, Auckland on December 10, 2022 | setlist.fm

In fairness, I'd be all over this.Ā  Even the covers and doubtless 15 minute noodly solo.

But 6 covers, and a few snippets of other people's songs, which tells me what I've always thought, they haven't got a huge amount of great songs themselves. Plus it's a long haul for me as Paradise City is my favourite. Still, I expect to be there.

When she wasnt doing mini residences at stadiums to meet with demand along with 4 more albums worth of material. And also was going to take all of the big festival paychecks for a change. Ā In regards to the whole taylor control big stream and all that, well some festival in california can offer everything glasto cant. And that promoter booked her tour this time so who has better odds of landing it. Also another thing to intrigue. Is you can pitch 3 festival weekends and be the first act to do such a thing. You want to appease the ego of somebody like swift? You have to think a little outside the box. 3 weekends, 3 different sets and the last one is at a country festival where the first 3 records can be showcased. And maybe 12 million Ā reasons Ā to go with it.

How come coachella struggles so much to book their headliners? Two years in a row now

True.Ā  Probably about 12-13 bangers and they're all in there.Ā  To be fair, I think I'd rather they trim it to a 2 - 2.5 hr tight set than fuck about, but at least with some covers in the mix it'll be more fun than them dragging out old albums tracks to fill the void.

Their shows are 3 hours long which they don't need to be. Even Springsteen with his vast back catalogue often throws in a cover during his 3 hour shows.

Plus knocking on heavens door and live and let die, whilst covers, are from use your illusion and now known almost as much for the guns n roses version as the original

Fair comment. I do genuinely reckon I'll really enjoy the show even though I'm not a huge fan. I did have great fun when Slash played the Pyramid years ago.

The setlist playlist I'm listening to on Spotify runs to 2 hours 53 minutes but includes a variety of covers, including some not played at every show. Add noodling, between songs faffing and encore break and you can see why they're shows are currently 3 hours long.

Trim some of that out and I think it could be an excellent couple of hours. Sadly I think they'll ditch more songs than solos.

The worst I saw for solos was Van Halen at Donington 84. Guitar, drums and bass solos plus Dave doing what appeared to be a samurai sword solo. PLAY THE FUCKING SONGS! šŸ˜„

The vast majority of what you've said there could be applied to the Foos' headline set...

FI was at that Leeds.

Prodigy finished and me and my mates had little interest in seeing GnR so we went to watch The Streets in a tent. Came back out after they had finished and we could see GnR walking out onto the stage in the distance, we figured we'd go and check out what we assumed was their encore... turns out they were only just coming on!

Funny! We'd lost our at mate (who was INCREDIBLY drunk) who'd been watching Prodigy. He was so drunk he just kept stepping back and forth saying "I'M DANGEROUS" and there was a big circle of people around him keeping their distance... When Prodigy finished he said "Right, I'm off to sort that C*** Axl out" and he ran into the crowd. We looked for ages for him, in the end me and my mate gave up and walked back to our tent which was the furthest point of the festival next to the A1. And, our mate was asleep in his tent! We woke him up, then G'N'R came on stage (we could see it in the distance) and our mate proceeded to prowl around our tents translating 'Sweet Child O' Mine' into Welsh.Ā

These kind of antics are what festivals are all about šŸ™‚Ā

Oh to be an 80's metalhead.Ā  Some of that grandstanding bollocks was insufferable.Ā  I caught most of an Yngwie Malmsteen set MOR in (I think?) 88.Ā  It was more solo than songs.

I wasn't a huge fan either until all the negative Nancys on here with their guns n roses hate turned me into a huge fan

I've never been particularly bothered with them, and the great thing about Glastonbury is that - for most people, most years at least - you can find something else and use your time more wisely that the 3 hours a headliner you're not fussed about sucks from precious festival time.  But... They're about £100 to see elsewhere, and they're at least worth a listen before hundreds of other stuff starts to get confirmed.  That they're actually good, despite the negativity is a bonus.

Same logic and I'll give some of Elton's (far vaster) catalogue a listen to.Ā  Never been bothered with him either, but can guess from the general hype here that the rest of the site will be deliciously empty while he's playing, so a lot to be said for giving it a miss if I'm still not fussed.Ā  Though reckon I'll be dragged to Elton, unlikely for GNR.Ā Ā

I can't face 3 pyramid headliners, I'll give AM a swerve until I've more of an idea how likely my attendance at the other two will be.

I know headliners are important however I think at Glastonbury slightly less so as there are so many alternatives to the main pyramid headliner. Last time I went in 2016 I actively hated every pyramid headliner but it was still one of my all time favourite festival weekends due to the sheer variety of options (and in so many different genres) available past the Pyramid headliners. In my opinion still well worth the ticket price I feel!

yeah man, Glasto has got a shit reputation with attracting top artists because it just can't offer what some festival in California does. Do you actually believe your waffle?

    • https://x.com/amirtibon/status/2083054470871535853 Ā  Some thoughts on the Gaza agreement announced overnight, which despite my reservations and concerns, I hope will be implemented. 1. Donald Trump is trying to collect "wins" and "achievements" ahead of the midterm elections. His party is entering that election at a disadvantage, but because Democrats may choose weak and unpopular candidates in specific states, much like Republicans did in 2022, there's a reason for Trump to at least try achieving a surprising result like the one Biden secured four years ago. Ā  2. The will to provide Trump such a "win" was an important motivation for all sides involved in this agreement: Hamas, Netanyahu, Qatar, Egypt, UAE and Turkey. All of them hope, each for their own reasons, that the transactional president will remember their role in the agreement and the positive media coverage it has generated and will continue to generate. You can like it or not, but that's the nature of diplomacy, especially in the Middle East, under Trump. Ā  3. Netanyahu and his band of liars in the Israeli media (and the last few suckers in the American media still buying his spin) are already trying to oversell the agreement and present it in terms that contradict the Board of Peace statements and briefings. Of course, the October 7 Prime Minister can't just say the truth on this one, which goes something like: "I'm trying to stay on good terms with Trump ahead of an election here in Israel that will determine my personal fate and whether or not I go to jail in 2027." Ā  4. For Hamas, the agreement is a way to buy time and survive, which is basically the organization's overarching goal since October 7. They lost most of their leadership and thousands of their fighters; they will also, I believe, give up some of their weapons to the new Gaza-based Palestinian government, which is a good thing. But at the bottom of all their decisions is a simple calculation: being able to say, "we committed the most deadly and humiliating attack against Israel since the start of the conflict, and survived as a movement and an organization to tell about it." Ā  5. Hamas was able to say that yesterday, before the agreement was signed, and it can also say that today, after the conclusion of the negotiations. So in that regard, the agreement is preferable to the murky post-war reality that preceded it, in which Hamas was recruiting again thousands of young fighters, holding on to all its weapons, and controlling 99% of Gaza's population, making money off people buying fuel and cigarettes. Changing even a part of that terrible reality, by collecting some of the weapons and allowing progress on reconstruction under a non-Hamas government, is better. It means coming to terms with the fact that Israel under this government failed to dismantle Hamas and allowed its survival even before this agreement was signed. Ā  6. Do I think the agreement will be fully implemented over the next 300 days, as I understand the timeline? I'm highly skeptical. But I'm also asking: what are the alternatives? Netanyahu, in his quest for political survival at all costs, ignored David Ben-Gurion's national security strategy of seeking short and decisive wars, which was based on Israel's unique internal and external challenges that make it dangerous for this country to have long wars of attrition. The result is an Israel that is hated, isolated and denounced around the world like never before, and is totally reliant on the support of one man (TRUMP) to avoid crushing international sanctions. Going to war in Gaza once again based on the same promise of "finishing Hamas," which this government failed to achieve after three long years, would have been suicidal unless Trump promised his full backing. And Trump, for good reasons, can't give such a commitment after his bitter experience with Netanyahu in Iran and Lebanon. Ā  7. For me and my family, these are all very personal, not only political, questions. My six-year-old daughter will start school on the Gaza border in exactly one month, as we rebuild our life in the same home where Hamas tried to murder us on October 7. We've learned over the years to be highly skeptical of premature victory announcements and diplomatic celebrations. When these things collapse under the cynical realities of the conflict, most of those announcing them are not around to face the consequences. Still, I don't see a better alternative to the 20-Point Plan that Trump presented last year, at least not with Israel's current position of isolation and exhaustion under this government. So I have some hope that the agreement will succeed, even partially, and deliver a period of quiet. For us on the border, that would be significant after three years of war and trauma. And maybe in the long run, with different Israeli and Palestinian leadership, this will become a first step in a broader positive change for the region.
