I've just been sent this photo by a friend of a friend who knows Emily's husband, apparently this pass allows you access to the Eavis' garden! only about ten issued I've been told, apparently it functions as a triple A too.

Are you sure that they are not pulling your leg?  Orchard is one of the staff campsites

I suspect that that's what it is. Standard crew quality laminate. A super exclusive one would have a photo and likely a serial number etc.

I've heard that the passes that have the maximum access possible are the various  council bods who monitor licensing, health and safety, noise levels etc.

There are 2 in T@C one called Orchard, the other fanny orchard (yes I know!). Only need T&C passes for those that I saw..

Mate has a AAA pass that has his photo and hologram on it.

Their meters were obviously broken this year, sound levels were too low.

This /\, Orchard is the name of a T&C backstage camping area. A T&C backstage pass consists of a papery type wristband, no laminate.

No, with T&C you get a wristband like the punters, ours had watermelons on them. You get a laminate which is what the folks on the gates look for.

Guests get a paper type wristband. My wife had one and was refused entry at one gate,  went to the other and all fine.

Yes - everything with that level of access is fully credentialled with name, photo, and job title / reason for access. Otherwise any fucker could nick/duplicate one and end up front and centre on the Pyramid or in Maccas dressing room.

Even actually being Michael or Emily doesn't (or at least, isn't supposed to) act as an AAA.

I'm not certain on this, but was under the impression they're given BAA passes, which is everything an AAA gets except access onstage.

I had a whole pile of council bods rocking up at my gate before the festival started, on the monday - i was on Vehicle gate 1, and there's a clipboard list of people allowed to access that gate as pedestrians - They werent on me list, so i didnt give them access. They had to call the farmhouse and ask for an escort (who was on my list) to take them in. I was in a bit of a quandary as to whether i should say yeah, crack on, just go in, but i thought it best to adhere to the instructions i was given, and they all seemed quite content with that - if it was a test, i passed! (i think)

Correct. I have a close friend on Mendip Council who attends in various capacities each year. She's had AAA in the past but this year got BAA which restricted stage access as you suggest.

From what I heard you didn’t need any passes to walk into Emily’s garden this year !! When a couple of security were on and they had no idea what passes were needed for access and required some help for a bit

this is true, we accidentally went the wrong way one night in our stupour, and had fun taking photos with various tractors before popping in after said guards sent us the wrong way when we realised our error and wanted a quick way back 😄

With that many passes and wristbands do the people on the main gates get a briefing on all the different ones?

Yep, and there's a reference book with examples and samples at each gate too.

It's not just passes and wristbands - there's quite a few different types of ticket to be familiar with, before wrist banding - GA, performers, hospitality, different crews, local residents, local residents who've passed on their tickets etc.

Sometimes referred to as "The Bible".

For me the whole system top to bottom is long overdue a refresh and massive simplification. With the system being so overcomplicated it's impossible for anyone to reasonably stay on top of the various bands out there and what they give you access to. That's why it's so easy to sneak into Interstage if you want to (and then, within 5 minutes, realise it's not worth it).

Good point, I forgot about actual crew/performers.

Found out in 2019 that locals can sign their tickets over to someone else for the day. We heard this from a mate and we didn't believe it at first but apparently it's true.

My mates have a band that had lined up some gigs for 2019, including the Bimble Inn and Avalon Cafe, but their double bass player didn't get a ticket so they asked me if i'd play the double bass for them. The only problem was that i'd never played that instrument before. The double bass player is involved in racing some specific type of old racing car and at one of their events he meets a Pilton local to whom he explains the predicament and this guy offers to sign his ticket over to my mate so he could play. In the end my mate didn't take him up on it, maybe because I worked really hard for a month learning how to play the double bass and it would have been for nothing if I didn't get to play the gigs.

I’d say you deserved it if you learnt the double bass to a performance level in a month!

And can help with blagging your way in to a certain extent, it's generally poor security to have to go to a book to check a wristband.

Could the EPO help? Could it hold location access data? So say there's just one crew wristband but at inter site entry/exit points you hold it up to an RFID reader that flashes a tick or cross if it's got the access?

Or have I just created an even worse problem than the one I've tried to solve. 🤣

To add onto this one of the security companies that did Glasto had their own 'Triple A' wristband, apparently it was fully black and had their logo on it. apparently each company had their own! I imagine this bible would be an amazing read though
