The likes of Maguire are happy to take the prestige and extra income for what is effectively a non job. I think therefore it's fair their behaviour comes into scrutiny.

If people want to scrutinise his behaviour that’s up to them.

Personally I think getting worked up over what Harry Maguire gets up to in his spare time is something Sun readers do.

I have no doubts that Maguire is happy to use the man Utd captaincy for his own financial benefit. I therefore think the trade off is an expectation of his off the field behaviour.

How? You don't know the details, he hasn't been charged of any offence.

Why the media report on arrests, rather than wait for a charges or better a conviction is entirely another thread.

He's going to be charged

Will he miss the first game of the season i wonder...

Chilwell going to Chelsea it would seem. 45-50m is the price being touted which seems okay given we were quoted 50m for the likes of Dunk. Either way, it's not like it's my money. I'll be glad to have defensive reinforcements anyway. LB and CB are two big weak spots in our side. Apparently Thiago Silva could be coming in on a free. Not sure his lack of pace would survive counter attacking teams but a short team deal could work well, tightening things up and the back, providing leadership and coaching some of the younger lads...

What do you reckon will be a good season for chelsea this season? top 4 and a good run in the champions league?

With Werner, Ziyech and potentially Chilwell and Havertz coming in, we are definitely improving the squad so we need to improve on this season. Top four is a must and yes I'd like to see us have a decent run in Europe but I'm not expecting too much when teams like Bayern exist... Challenging for a cup would be good to create a winning mentality in the squad.

Pretty much where I am with united, the gap to top 2 is so big from 3rd and 4th.

You should be challenging for title with those signings. You don't have to face City or Liverpool every week and with that squad, you should be beating all the others. Chelsea should definitely be in contention.

Was Giggs not captain after it emerged he had been shagging his sister in law?

Roy keane was charged when he was captain. Hey Eric Cantona was made captain after his assaulting.

I wouldn't have maguire captain anyway, then again we are a team devoid of any leaders.

I’m inclined to agree to be honest. Granted Chelsea need defenders - and it seems like they’re also sorting that - but when you bring in that many top quality players in 1 window I think you’d be expected to compete.

This season I would suggest Werner, Ziyech, Chilwell and Havertz would get into Liverpool or City’s team/squad.

That’s not to say it’ll be a failure if they don’t win it or anything but they should definitely be closer (points wise)

We should be up the top, yeah. Huge investment and the club is backing Lamps big time. We've not got as many title winners in our squad now but you'd imagine it's time for some of the players to step up. If Werner can hit the ground running and Frank can solve our defensive woes I'd certainly expect us to be closer to the top in terms of points.

Not... illegal?

Just my opinion here, but I would rather my captain got in a drunken bar brawl in Greece, than shagged his sister in law for 7 years and paid for her to have an abortion.

A drunken fight is stupid, what Giggs did was morally repugnant.

Oh I don't disagree but I think when it comes to morality stuff like that, its best for the clubs not to get involved.

Can any Chelsea fans explain to me where all this cash is coming from?

Over 200m in player sales the past two years and we will sell more in this window as the likes of Bakayoko, Emerson, Batshuayi etc will leave. Pedro and Willian were on high wages and have left.

It wouldn't be pre-season if Everton did not have a poor result against lower league opposition.

Allan is the first signing that I've actually been excited about in while if it comes off. There was stat when Everton were in for Højbjerg that he'd made more tackles last season than the entire Everton midfield put together
