I missed bits of Hancock's Commons appearance as I was driving but I think I heard him mentioning something about the mass vaccination centres not being opened for several weeks yet, as they were designed to be used with the Oxford/AZ vaccine.

Obviously a bit concerning in two aspects - when will AZ be approved , and the possible slippage in predicted vaccination capacity ie any targets for phase 1 vaccination will have slipped by another few weeks.

Can't see it written down anywhere but definitely remember something along those lines.

NI Executive to discuss a 6 week lockdown (with a 4 week review) starting on Xmas eve but not affecting Xmas bubbles.

Figures up today so I understand why but it is going to be awful for those in hospitality/non-essential retail.

From the sounds of it, this could be quite a hard lockdown...

When are we going to hear talk of England doing the same...?

It’s almost like we won’t see complete normality by Easter.

Treasury says its so it can comply with 45 days notice period. So if furlough is removed at the budget...

Lets see though anyway. I personally think lockdown compliance past February wont be good

I've generally been supportive of Burnham in all this, but the numbers don't suggest in the slightest that Tier 2 would be safe in GM. It's a recipe for exponential growth.

I was being a bit arch as he has a point that places are being treated differently based on if they're North or South (or maybe if they argued with the government).

But it plays into that narrative that lockdown is bad and a punishment, when lockdown is to protect people in that area from dying.

There's a lot more to it, and I've certainly argued as much in terms of the Christmas loosening of restrictions being needed, but you can't get round the fact that more people are going to die if an area is in Tier 2 than if it's in Tier 3. Regardless of how "well" it's doing.

Obviously there's a degree of balancing that against the economy but it's just that, a balance. Burnham has been almost entirely one-note throughout this, only seeming to care about having the loosest restrictions possible for Manchester. At no point has he even engaged with the fact that looser restrictions mean more deaths. More deaths of the people of Manchester.

    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
    • I'm definitely not camping 🙂.  My 17 year old Daughter and her friends are there 3 days and commuting back to Sheffield each day as didn't want to camp .  I am taking and picking up the Saturday so thought I may as well get a ticket as love Fontaines DC - need to do a lot of research on the other acts though to fill my day.    I walked through the camp site other year the day Arctic Monkeys played and it was like a War Zone.  My Son has camped a couple of times but didn't fancy my Daughter staying over.
    • Not at all impressed with Polanski saying "noone should be barred from public life" wrt the Tory neo-nazi. I really don't think "no nazis in politics" should be an excessive standard.
