How much are lateral flow tests going for at the moment? I'd assume we'll be paying for them for non essential use

A lot of council areas (all of England now?) just let you have one for free. They’re trying to do as much asymptomatic mass testing as possible.

Drakeford ain't backing down

Hand washing - Ok fine, should probably have been doing this all along and it shouldn’t really bother anyway.

Masks - Not ideal tbh, would prefer them to become optional but I can live with it if that’s the cost of more normality.

Social distancing - Fuck off Drakeford you senile c**t. Hope he loses his seat tbh.

As he said, social distancing is 'simple...

It's very odd. Even most scientists aren't saying that

He will I have no doubt about that, the disdain the average Welsh person have for Drakeford is quite something.

One of the CRG lot made a good point (incredible, I know!) yesterday - where does this leave pregnant women? You can’t just exclude them from society, surely?

Well publicans aren't going to care that non-drinking pregnant women can't come in!

What do you think he means by social distancing? Social distancing is a spectrum, not a binary thing. All it means in this case is limiting close contacts that provide zero value and just being conscious of your space and imposing on others (which, like handwashing, we should all have been doing anyway - I appreciate it'll be difficult for the handsy pub brigade to stop touching random women though).

Exactly. Social distancing can mean all sorts from mask wearing to 2 meters distance and everything in between. He could well be right but preparing his people for the potential of it in the future is good leadership.

I certainly don’t know why someone that lives in London is getting angry by what the First Minister in Wales is saying though.

Particularly as Westminster are very often keen to go against devolved nations...

Cause as an island obviously Britain is gonna be on a similar path in all countries.

Also unsure how social distancing = mask wearing tbh.

Yeah that’s true, they’ll go the other way with it unless they really don’t have any other choice.

At what point would social distancing end though? Once everybody who wants a vaccine has had one later in the year, then when not try to move back to complete normality as soon as possible? Seems pointless to drag it out just for the sake of it.
Why would social distancing end in 2022, what would make it any safer then?

Also think someone needs to give Mark Drakeford a lesson in trying to do well in an election if this is the sort of thing he is saying 2 months before the Welsh parliament elections.

Yep I thought that - really does seem like political suicide. Or a serious misread of public opinion.

Lol what? He distinguishes between mask wearing and social distancing.

I dont think its good leadership to say gloomy stuff like that without a proper explanation as to why

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
    • In a 6,800-word Substack essay, external, the Clacton MP said "anti-white racism was embedded into the state", and that legislation aimed at equality was a form of "social cleansing"   .https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdjkd4mp93zo   The privileged white c**t hasn’t got a clue what racism is.
