Yeah that's fine but then people have to accept that's the trade off and can't then moan about larger more all encompassing lockdowns.

They can. You’re assuming everyone is aiming for the same goal and that measures are consistently effective (and as a side issue, that China is completely truthful).

We're going to be calling for help from Europe/Ireland aren't we.

How much bed capacity is left in London?

Up until a couple of weeks ago, we might have been able to help (indeed our ambulance crews were up in Belfast helping out), but our hospital occupancy has doubled in the last week. Not using the private hospitals yet, but Christmas infections (and those caught between Christmas and New Year) only filtering through now, so I don’t think we’d be in any position to do anything. The only saving grace is that we shut down most things on Christmas Eve as cases started to spiral and then banned household visits before NYE (plus the 5km limit came back in), so while we’re not at the peak yet, hopefully we can stay within capacity. Schools currently shut til the 11th in the hope that 10 days is enough to get cases down, but I don’t think it will...had nearly 5000 confirmed cases today (was 200 only 3 weeks ago). Gonna be a rough few weeks.

Well on a scale of 0 - COVID, I’ve just drank vinegar straight from the bottle and not tasted a thing.

Where does that put me? 😂

That’s a get a test as quickly as possible position I believe, I hope you’re all okay

Apparently there have been a shitload of recent bad reviews left on the Yankee Candles site by people complaining that the quality of their scented candles has gone to ratshit because they allegedly don't smell very strong or at all.

I do think there might be some reason for this.

I really think we (UK) should look at bringing in the 5km limit. Too late now but could have made a difference.

I could see them doing a no leaving your county rule instead unless you had an essential reason e.g. local supermarket being over a county border

They've had considerably less deaths per head of population than the UK and their numbers have been on a downward trend for weeks.

There's obviously a number of variables involved, but I don't think we're in a position to say that Sweden have failed.

I’m not necessarily talking about failure, but too many people talk about Sweden like it’s New Zealand.

Essentially- the rest of us who don't have important jobs are locked down for 2021. That's not supposed to sound bitter, its exactly what I expected, but nice to get some honesty from someone

Yeah... Once the deaths and hospitalisations are down from vaccinating phase 1 I dont believe for a second young people will carry on with social distancing or none household mixing

Yeah all good had blocked sinuses since Friday but thought I was just coming down with a head cold.

Felt a bit lethargic today and fell asleep on the sofa.

Sucker punch (depending on how you look at it) was not being able to smell the nippers soiled nappy about 3 hours ago.

Since then I’ve tried smelling / tasting almost everything in the house but can’t smell or taste a thing.

Even necked the wife’s gin which I’d be gagging on after a sip usually!

All the best with the test.

I’d imagine professional football and sport starts to become in doubt now 😞

Starting to become a bit unmanageable anyway with mounting fixture congestion in a variety of sports, football clubs gaming the postponement procedures, international seasons coming up, footballers being idiots and so on. They can't manage within isolation rules and this will only get worse, unless they are in complete biosecure bubbles, like the touring cricket teams were.

Euros,  Olympics and Lions events will looking on nervously.

Yep  it  doesn’t help an overall compliance picture with the lockdown breaches from footballers all over the news of late ... fixtures off left right and centre ... I’d guess that it will stop with any national lockdown ... they won’t be able to justify sport as essential travel

I... don't think sports would be locked down. The fact they found the infections and dealt with them without it spreading further would be proof for them that they can handle playing.

this isn’t a hockey stick, it’s a wall

I’m presuming the lifting of the lockdown (pre-ordained to appease Tory backbencher)  is when it it switched from going down, to suddenly going vertical?

    • Lost my love of football years ago so I pay very little attention to it these days but I'm really enjoying Max Rushden's video diaries of his flat share with Barry Glenddening. I think Barry might kill him before the end of the tournament
