Delighted that we will have (hopefully ) a virtual qing system from Fri ... scan in and it will allocate a slot and you can go and wait in your car until you are called ... might be chaos on the roads around stores given that the carparks are going to have lots of people sitting in cars ... rather than a flow ... will find out on friday ...

Indeed, my timeline got all excited over the idea that Edwina Curry pegged John Major

Just saw this and Prince Andrew trending too. Can't believe I basically forgot I had Twitter until I went on furlough.

anyone travelling by public transport to visit family over christmas is probably better off breaking the rules and travelling on the 22nd and 28th.

Like everything we have absolutely no idea of the numbers that will be travelling .... Its obviously normally one of the peak times of year ... who knows with this one ...

I feel very sorry for Chris Whitty on all this - he looks so miserable whenever Christmas relaxations are mentioned yet he has to back them. It must go against all his instincts as a scientist to have to support such madness

I’ve had him on resignation watch for months. Can’t be easy giving all the scientific advice and having the PM ignore it. I suspect the only reason he and Vallance haven’t already bolted is to avoid having to see a replacement get appointed who’d have Johnson’s ear even less.

First thing Johnson said/lied at PMQs earlier was 'we have followed the scientific advice all along'.

this is the same c**t that grated cheese on some over cooked salmon to own the libs, I cringe whenever any of his bad takes get any traction.

I wondered why I'd been feeling so low recently!

Joking aside, WTF did he do that?!

Re the above post, I half thought he was taking the piss TBH. Oh dear!

‘Extreme caution’ for Christmas. Aren’t people supposed to be showing caution at the moment and cases are still rising?

That, ultimately, is the problem though isn't it? Numbers are going up, even though over half the country is in "tier 3" (which is basically lockdown) and the numbers we saw in the last week are in the window of impact for the previous, nationwide lockdown.

Fundamentally: lockdown isn't work anymore.

We know "lockdown fatigue" is a real thing, and it's likely why it's not working anymore (unless, y'know the virus has changed in some way).

We could lockdown the country for now until March and the numbers would still keep going up.

We have to do something different. Christmas mixing will of course create a spike in cases, but at a time when lots are off work and schools are closed, so in terms of not overwhelming the NHS we should be okay.

And if you can break that perpetual lockdown cycle, let people feel a bit normal for a few days, maybe then there will be renewed acceptance of a final lockdown in January/February to properly get us over the finish line.

Because we need to do something different, because lockdowns aren't working any more.

(And bless the scientists, but all their predictions seem to be modelled on people actually following the rules, we're ignoring the behavioural side entirely)

Serious question. What about those customers who don’t travel by car? My local Asda is a 5 minute walk away, I actually walk right past it twice a day on my way to work and back.

I don’t want to be stuck waiting in the rain for a shopping slot.
