I feel no particular love or hatred towards The Darkness.

However they did produce, at time of writing, the last great Christmas single.

I instinctively knew this couldn't be so. I was about to retort "xxxx came out after that Darkness song and it's miles better". But I checked and I could only find one original Christmas song that I'd actually heard since 2004 - Coldplay's "Christmas Lights".

So, yeah. You might onto something.

And they stood in for Bowie at TITP in 2004 when he had to pull out.

That’s a sore subject, the only time I ever had a ticket to see Bowie.

I did watch them, and spent the whole set singing Bowie songs. That and the Haggis Pakora I ate and cant forget.

1st saw the Darkness supporting the Wildhearts somewhere in London in the early 2000s. Next time I heard of them, they'd pretty much taken over the british pop world.

They're now doing the theme and jingles for Katie's Amazing Machines on cbeebies.

Great Christmas songs released after the Darkness:

Sufjan Stevens - Hey guys. It's Christmas Time.

Skinny Lister and Beans On Toast - This Christmas.

The Raveonettes - The Christmas Song.

Honourable mention to Grimes

And Dum Dum Girls

....but tbf, The Darkness beats the lot.

Have a soft spot for them. 2003 opener was great fun,  saw them in Plymouth in 2004(?) and equally over the top fun.
