And, it's not just a bag search. It's a thorough rucksack and every bag within it, sleeping bag opened up, tent bag opened up, jars of coffee prodded for concealments etc.. I've been stopped a few times. Basically what you would get from customs just short of a strip search. And they have facilities for that as well.

Totally, unnecessarily over the top if they're seriously considering that for nearly everyone. Can't see it myself.

Where did this bit come from? That is a sledgehammer to crack a nut and will take forever. Can't be true. If it is, suggests there is intelligence. If not then terrorism has won.

FYI everyone. I entered the site by driving through red gate today and it only took me 15 mins from Pilton village to The Park. That's the quickest ever by about 15 mins.

Yes, I'm on a crew / performers' ticket, but the information emailed to me was the same as the main website.

The festival set up is ongoing.

Every little thing is gunna be alright.

xx

I have information from a worker that has arrived on site basically corroborating the official statements made. There will be Searches of vehicles, bags, and persons as stated.

Most other claims are simply speculation and lead to wild assumptions or overthinking

Exchangly.

Unless you worked for MI5/6, how would anyone know?

I'm not saying I know more than those people, course not, but I was at a meeting on Thursday with a senior MDP officer who was talking about Operation Temperer (sp?) being definitely, 100% stood down. That includes the MDP and the regular armed police they support (same level of training) in the community.

This doesn't happen if there's intel about something potentially going down somewhere.

RE: dogs. In my experience FMing police dog lodges around the south, most dogs specialise. I was volunteered to take part in a national dog training exercise earlier in the year which meant dogs searching my car with either a placebo or a real substance stuck under my car in what can only be described as a Tupperware box. It was done in a 'for real' way rather than in a training scenario...cos the dogs know / recognise they're being trained. Each cycle we did was a different substance for a different specialised dog.

Just saying.

If it reassures anyone, the explosive dogs are amazing. They even recognised a placebo in the Tupperware tub under my car as being foreign to the car, even though there was no explosive scent.

picking up some "gossip"from Glasto Ch@t

From people arriving, bear in mind that these potentially are parking within the fence ;)

"There have been a number of posts about the searches, so here is my experience today. Glove box and all cubby holes in the car searched. Under the front seats, around the spare wheel under the boot carpet. And all my bags underwent a thorough poking and prodding.

Yes it's going to slow things down.but don't get lippy maintain a sense of humour and we will all remain safe."

If they were to do that for every single person it would take about 4 days for the queue to get in

Not going to happen

Well that will depend entirely on how many people are searching. You could easily clear people more quickly, you'd just need more searchers.

Do I need to tag my mates? In case I leave them in a field and go off wondering in search of ....

Got a tendency to do that and it's a bugger trying to locate them later. If I could be called, and they were kept safe in a holding cell, that would be peachy

Man you guys are whacko

saying they would cancel the festival on intel, the intel could be a uk festival is the target, that's why all festivals are now doing this, even 1000 person ones are expected to.

If we cancelled every uk festival then surely the terrorists win

chillout everyone its just a bag search

If they had specific intelligence that something was being planned for Glastonbury then it would be cancelled, no question about that. It's not about "letting the terrorists win" it's about not knowingly putting the public at risk.

Intelligence that UK festivals and concerts in general are targets already exists and was widely reported in May 2016.

Sounds a bit risky, surely non-explosive detection dogs would be a safer bet.

Looks like I picked the wrong day to run out of up-votes.

Did you read as far as the quote I posted from the (pretentiously job titled) "Gold Commander" (aka Assistant Chief Constable)? "There is no intelligence...". Or did you just react? Of course, she may know something we don't

I'm interested by the split of opinion between "It's fine and necessary" and "It's over the top and draconian". I think I am erring towards the latter. If searching everyone is what they're aiming for.

Regarding how thorough the searches are came from source. I.E. me, having been stopped and searched on entry at least four times now. They do not muck about. It is not just "a bag search". It is a proper doing over. I'm not saying that they will do that to everybody. In fact, I think I'm arguing, like yourself, that such an approach would be insane. See my previous posts in this thread for "the only winners are the terrorists and the private security contractors" comments.

The suggestion that it (trying to search everyone/everything) may be a possibility, is being discussed because it's easily implied by the recent "please label everything", "they're will be extra plod with guns helping security conduct searches" statements and "Gold Commander" videos that GFL have been sending to everyone in the last week, that that is exactly what they would like to do (I mean "Feel Is Necessary").

I'm pretty sure they stated similar last year (minus the "coppers with guns" theme) and as previously posted I thought they had it just about right last year.

But, as others have stated, They will be damned if they do and damned if they don't.

More updates like this please.

I do hope the weapons dogs don't sniff my hand axe.

(Usual "It's strictly for firewood officer" disclaimer).

Maybe don't take an axe

But why shouldn't I take an axe? I am, after all, camping in a place that provides (or used to provide) firewood that is (was) of a size that needs (needed) chopping. (Now I know this is an outdated argument. Said axe was bought about 7/8 years ago and has never been unsheathed).

Do you think I should leave my Victorinox (Swiss army) pen knife at home as well? Also perfectly legal to carry for legitimate purposes. Such as going camping for five days.

Poop.

I thought I had everything on my list too!  You can never have too many cool things!  Take the axe!  (Mind you, that's a beer right there, that you could also carry!).  When did you last see firewood actually?

What, lying around and not already burning? Hmm, a few years ago. I have it from a good source though (not false news at all) that if you know where to look it is still provided.

Said axe was only about £3 and it's honestly never been opened.

Said Victoronix Swiss army knife was a find over thirty years ago. A trusted companion. I was meant to find it.

Where would you look though (and I say this as someone who has moved on to the softer campervan field option, so has no "vested interest").  I'm curious.

I will look this year.  (Unless beer is involved.  Then, I might not.)

I've heard tales that like days of yore, they still deposit piles of it at the edges of the most outlying campsites.

I mean, you still see camps with camp fires occasionally, right? Therefore, they must be getting firewood from somewhere. I can't believe they're bringing it with them. Therefore they must be either in the know, or they're all buying logs from that one weird stall in The Other field that sells logs and only logs.

We're getting off topic here.
