I just hope that at least one of 'the big 3' has proper bangers to steam through. Huge singalongs in the field. I don't care if they're 'cool' or 'relevant in 2019' or any of that. For just one of the nights I want a shit-ton of hits that everyone knows.

I tell you what I want, what I really, really want...

Efestivals never ceases to amaze me. So Tame Impala and The Strokes are not worthy of headlining Glasto although they are headlining or have headlined major festivals around the world, have worldwide publicly and critically acclaimed albums and have delivered solid performances along the years.

At the same time, Stormzy is actually headlining Glasto with just one album that is absolutely unknown outside the UK, having done no sets in a major international festival and being completely irrelevant to the music scene.

That’s how I feel.  One big name smashing it.

To be fair mate the reason people don't think Other headline is likely isn't because they don't deserve it/wouldn't be offered it, but because we dunno whether Foals would actually take it when they're probably looking to headline festivals outright.

I see your point. I would say however that Yannis absolutely adores the festival and a headline slot is a headline slot... without their new album/s even out yet... leaves the door open for a 2021 slot (by all accounts 2020 acts are already sorted).

Pretty much, problem?

Nobody thought those things were gonna happen though. :P

At worst it’s like when we thought Depeche Mode were gonna headline in ‘14.

I'm still a big fan of:

"Adele is the 'headliner' but she doesn't like crowds, so she's going to go on before Radiohead"...or whatever it was.

It was never fully explained how going on in daylight, when she could see the enormous crowd that had gathered, would have helped.

She said she was scared of flares or something didn't she?

As it turned out some absolute jabroni overdosing on ketamine was her only worry.

Baffling. But we were a lonnnnnng way into collectively losing the plot by then.

I remember reading this scenario out to Mrs Woffy and her looking at me like I was mid-cerebral embolism.

Fair point. I could see myself turning into one of these people during Radiohead's first song. so I buggered off to Dizzee Rascal instead. Win-win.

Haha. It’s easy too do, especially a bit sauced. But it’s also good to create a good atmosphere on site for everyone else enjoying the festival. You did the right thing. Kanye was particularly bad for it. For beck i was surrounded by people angrily waiting for Coldplay in silence.

So what you're saying is Radiohead are back to headline again this year?

    • Policing is very relaxed, provided you stay within your lines I'd say. I don't think we're supposed to have an event shelter as well as a tent next to our van, but we've done it without issue for years. It's a happy vibe up there.
    • Do feel a lot more cynical about the Mercury now. Given the awards show is now an arena event, there's clearly a pressure on them to nominate mainstream acts in order to sell tickets for it. And not saying that Jade and Knats don't deserve to be nominated (haven't listened to either), but the fact the event is in Newcastle can't have nothing to do with that... (not to mention Fender winning last year, which frankly was a joke)    Hard not to agree with this: https://www.clashmusic.com/features/this-years-mercury-prize-is-a-pivot-towards-the-mainstream/
