Love or hate Cave, he didn't spend several years performing live with just a sock hanging from his willie.

Spat over people in the crowd at RW though? Proper art. The people loved it.

A buck-naked Nick Cave, fresh from a visit to the Sock Shop, walking out onto the crowd hollering Stagger Lee clad only in some hosiery pulled over his winkie.

You have a splendid ability to generate horrible images in the minds of others, Dear Gonz.

I say why stop at RHCP. Why not see what Fred Durst and the lads are up to? Give Korn a bell? Let’s get the whole Kerrang early 00’s playlist together.

I dunno if they really are digging The Cure back up to headline I wouldn't completely rule out something daft like the Chillis happening in future. Obviously different cases but we all agreed The Cure were past their days as a relevant G headliner until Neil came in with info saying it was happening, right?

Well if you think about it they've exhausted the big 70s acts (Neil Young etc), so really it's only a matter of time until they start mining the 80s

That can’t be what you think their reach is lol. That’d be a dreadful take.

They’re p shit but they’re still as much an entry-level rock band as Foo Fighters, and their popularity is only a smidge below them too. Again, I don’t think they’ll ever play but, if they did, they’d get a bigger crowd than most possible headliners.

Now my memories are very hazy of the late 90's and 2000's, but if I remember rightly the RHCP were absolutely huge and were seen as quite a hip and credible band. They were seen as far more credible than Green Day and far, far bigger than bands like Pearl Jam. Now admittedly I was into Italian House and plinky plonk piano handbag house during those times, but the RHCP were the massive cross over success if I remember correctly.

When did they become the butt of everyone's ire and why?

They spend 40 minutes jamming between each song

Years ago when they played Leeds before they came on I said to friends

” They better not do a 30 minute self indulgent jazz fusion jam “

Tossers bloody opened with that so I was off ASAP .

Melvin Benn admitted later they were a bad booking as they could not be arsed

    • Rod Liddle has died. RIP.
    • Tickets on sale from 17th August but there is a special autobuy feature from 10th August- you log what you want to buy and then forget about it apparently.
    • Took my now 12 year old to old Trafford couple of years ago, for his 1st game. He fell asleep during the game, no replies needed. 😃   He is also a Wolves fan, my parenting skills are as good as Onana's goalkeeping skills.
    • A few snaps from Sunday, which was huge fun, plus Happy Mondays, Radio Free Alice, Fratellis and Pale Waves. We didn't stay for The Streets, as after 3-4 songs it felt so downbeat compared to the rest of the day, and i've got another hectic week at work incoming.
    • It was fine, just hectic! The youngsters were mostly very well-behaved. The weather was a real bonus, although surprisingly chilly evenings - I guess it's the altitude - and the area between sound and main stage was a massive dust bowl.
