Thanks to interweb a secret set is only a secret set until about 30 seconds after it starts or someone spills the beans early on twitter and then the whole festival knows so it's a headache for security and stewards.

Yes I remember the health and safety nightmare that was The Kooks on the John Peel Stage in 2014.

Droves of people battled to get out of that tent. After I got home I heard a story that one person failed to get out and had to listen to Luke Pritchard shouting "Jackie Big Tits" into a human face for all eternity.

Make of this what you will! Had a few pints and a right good natter with Mani a couple of weeks ago in Manchester during and after a Little Barrie gig, he insisted that they won't be at Glastonbury next year due to the poor payment they were offered, (hefty payment imo)

He didn't rule out being there in 2019 though.

I can't imagine that changing by 2019. So it would have to be them feeling like they're missing out by not playing.

Big pinch of salt here, but if that's true they can fuck off. Seen them a few times and I'm a big fan but clearly they're just looking for big stadium pay days more than actually reforming because they care about making new music. Pretty sad.

Gah, they're a bunch of F*ckers aren't they.  I get they need to pay their kids school fees and all that, but really to p*ss about with fans is despicable.  Where's this new album anyway?

I adore the Stone Roses, but really......its not good.

The stone roses are only in it for the money

In other news water is wet and the sky is blue

I know I know it's obvious, but being a big fan I'd convinced myself they'd reformed for actual decent reasons, but even I can't pretend otherwise lately. It's plain as day with their latest gig pricing and their constant 'three nights at *insert big stadium here*'

which essentially means they'll only do it when they don't have a better offer on the table from somewhere else.

I think we'd all already worked that one out. :P

Me, I hope Glastonbury is smart enough to not play their game.

I can understand (if not excuse) the cash grab attitude in the first and possibly second year of their return. They'd been away for nearly 20 years there was massive demand for their shows, you can see why they'd want to cash in on it.

But next year is five years since they've returned, they've released two new songs in that time - one average, one terrible, and yet they're still churning out the same basic show we saw in Heaton Park and demanding top dollar to play anywhere.

Fuck 'em.

If Eavis wants them I reckon he'll just wait. Manchester 09 is likely to happen to be honest around June and it'll be all this again.

You say this but Glasto have booked acts in the past that decline for the same reason and more than likely an offer didn't get past management. Provided IOW and R&L don't have them which I'd doubt now, I can't see what else they are waiting for?, it's no as if Eavis is likely to offer more than 400k in the future.

What did he say about new music?

Isn't that exactly what Neil's post you quoted said?

Just to play devil's advocate here, why are we to assume that Glastonbury should be special for every single artist to the point where they sacrifice 'the going rate' for the perceived honour of doing it?

At what point is Glastonbury just a gig?

When you're not live on the Beeb. The hike in record sales after bands are on telly is huge. The Who had a 1000% increase the next day or something, Lionel Richies set got him to #1 and so on.

In a way but it still doesn't stop them accepting a slot too.

The Mike99 is strong in this one
