2011 was wet.  2014 was mixed IMO, but still the 2nd worst of all the ones I've been to.  Last year and '09 were pretty similar with the odd cloudburst but no real, proper mud.  And we all remember 2010.  I love 2010.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that last year was probably slightly better than average, 2014 was slightly worse.

If you went in 97, 98 and 2005, then 2014 was a beautiful exercise in virtually dry festival glory

Yep, some people seem to have very high expectations for the weather!! Having first been in 98 and also present in 05, every year 09 onwards has been fine! 11 wasn't great but was forecast and was tolerable.

Agreed that there's obviously a lot more going on than just sheer rainfall amounts which makes the experience/perception of the rain differ year on year. I've been trying to remember the weather for most years and this is my ranking from best-worst:

2010 - no explanation needed

2008 - sunny on arrival, a heavy shower on either Weds or Thurs evening, showers on Fri during the day interspersed with Sun until Elbow played on the Other Stage and then sunny with cloud and light breezes for pretty much the rest of weekend

2013 - mainly heavy downpours on Thurs afternoon, from what I remember? It was definitely sunny a fair bit

2014 - weird, that although this ranks quite low I don't remember the weather being a huge issue? - I remember the stages closing of course but it didn't really force me to change plans much

2011 - grim arrival, grim Friday

2005 - if I'd been one of the people with a flooded tent I would have ranked this the worst I expect.

2007 - ugh.

Only really one bad year (2007), and a couple of other periods (Thurs night/Friday in 2005 and Friday evening in 2011) where I've had to adjust plans a bit due to weather or I remember being really fed up. 2005 was my first year and if I was ranking according to 'favourite festival' my order would be pretty different

2016 Likely to be hottest on record - with some science to explain why.

Interesting.  Liked the graphic spiral about the average temperatures.

That said, El Nino events are also associated with heavy storms and wet weather aren't they?  In this Country at least.  The last thing Glastonbury needs is a week of stifling humidity and monsoons!

2011 was my first year and I remember becoming a complete mud monster in the queue. Then showers off and on for most of the festival and a beautifully hot Sunday to finish it off with.

2013 was pretty much sun all the way through apart from Thursday afternoon when there was a bit of a downpour.

2014 I don't remember being that bad either. I was napping in my tent when they shut down the Pyramid stage because of the storm then made it out for Lily Allen when the sun came out. Then it hammered down again and I remember legging it to West Holts to watch Jurassic 5 but apart from that I don't remember much rain.

2015 again I remember one big downpour on Friday I think but apart from that it was fairly good most of the time.

I'm hoping for sun and a light breeze every day this year. A girl can dream right?

There was a load of mud after the storm on Thursday night/Friday morning in 09 but it dried exceptionally fast from mid afternoon.

Wait, what? A balanced *whisper it* even positive comment about the weather from The Nal??  You're losing your touch!

Nothing worse than arriving when it is muddy.  Arrived Wednesday late evening in 2011.  Turned around the corner (where they have the zig zag queing system) at gate A and that bit where it is fenced either side that runs up to the gate  was just, wall to wall 100m of ankle deep mud where several thousands had gone before us!  There was no one else around and we just looked at each other, all loaded up with kit, with that "WTF - how we going to manage this?" look.

Just stating historical fact. Just as its a fact that its going to rain this year. All depends on how much.

You're almost certainly right.  But it didn't in 2003 or 2010.  Not one drop.

It rained in 2003, light drizzle but it still counts - pretty sure it was during Sigur Ros set on the Sunday.

I didn't see any UK cities come to a halt, not even London, and people not able to leave their houses because the snow was that bad.  As far as winters went it wasn't exactly extreme.

Oh okay. Must have been thinking of another year, I seem to remember stats saying a year round that time stayed dry, probably 2000. Might try to dig out some figures.

It was very very light drizzle- we were very lucky because the sky went very dark grey Sunday evening (I remember because I was watching the delgados in new bands tent and they were getting pissed off that people kept looking outside, and told everyone off!) and was forecast to pour down- fortunately it never materialised!
