fuckloads of water, dioralyte (or other rehydration drink) and paracetamol/ibuprofen/some kind of painkiller before bed (add 5hpt to this if you're dabbling in more than just alcohol). repeat in the morning if you're still not quite right (with added berocca). works a charm (and i say this after a solid 12 hours of drinking and drug taking yesterday and having to be in work today. no way i could have lasted all day without having all of this)

I tried dioralyte once and was as sick as a dog within ten seconds. It did improve the taste of the festering ale that came back up though.

In a way I suppose it worked.

Keep a bucket close by if experimenting with rehydration sachets. In a field on your own is not the time for dabbling with the unknown.

Half a fiver the next morning to ward off the self loathing and heebie jeebies. Not while drinking. Just turn ye to wibbly jelly doing that.

As I said, I don't mix it with alcohol. I sometimes suffer really bad panic attacks with hangovers and always have an emergency valium in my bag. Rarely have to take it but keep it on me all the same.

Thanks, I'll check them out. How long before i try to sleep should i take one?

I just take a couple when I get back to the tent. It's not especially strong, but gives you a wee helping hand in getting back to sleep if something has woken you up early doors.

Nytol is basically the same stuff if you don't have a Boots near you.

I'm quite committed to avoiding hangovers at Galstonbury because I seem to get them quite badly unless I take steps to avoid them.

Before staring I'll have a Dioralyte and Berocca drink along with a vitamin B tablet.

Another Dioralyte for roughly every 4 drinks I have and then another Dioralyte and Berocca before bed.

That seems to almost stop a hangover dead in its tracks other than feeling a bit groggy in the morning from alcohol reducing your sleep quality but there's not much you can do about that. I suppose Nytol might help but I'm not convinced that's a good idea.

Reading up about NAC because of this thread and the science seems plausible (can't find anything peer reviewed though) so I'll throw that into the mix this year.

I usually vomit after taking Dioralyte. In fact, it always seems to work better if I do a small vom half way through the drink and then manage to keep down the rest.

I had to have it as a child in hospital. They must have mixed about 1/3 of a bottle of squash with it and it still came straight back up.

My wife swears by a Diarolyte before bed. I'm more a fan of the occasional bottle of water whilst on a session and a pint of water and a few ibuprofen by the side of the bed to down when you wake up, then go back to bed for another 60mins for it to kick in, by which time you've got your appetite back and need a fried egg sarnie or similar. Give it an hour, then back on the sauce.

Probably worth mentioning that if you're taking any MAOI or SSRI based anti-depressants then I'd seriously not suggest taking 5-HTP due to the possible risks of serotonin syndrome, even if only slight. Likewise, probably not a good idea to take Valium and 5-HTP either as there may be some contraindications as well.

If you're prone to vomiting whilst drinking Diarolyte I'd suggest diluting it a bit more and possibly adding some more sugar and/or something sharp like lemon juice, it's the saltiness which is kicking in an emetic response...

I've found that a couple of berroca's and acouple of solpadene's when you first wake up then a couple of pints of guiness early on with some food sets me up quite nicely. Also instead of the guiness a smoothie with a large dash of vodka helps also.

How do people deal with the week after a festival in terms of trying to lessen the vivid dreams and associated madness? I really struggle with this the most.

I am back to work on the Wednesday which is the earliest I've ever gone back after a festival so am quite concerned.

i couldn't even count the amount of times i have had a few pints and taken 10mg valium or 1mg xanax before a long-haul flight. like clockwork, i woke up 8 hours later with the plane about to land. there's also amnesia though -- generally remember nothing of getting off the plane, collecting bags etc.

valium is almost impossible to overdose on, you need to take over 1000mg. it's dangerous if you drink a bottle of vodka and take a really high dose.

taking 2.5mg is completely safe if you're hungover, or blind drunk. the problem is an absurdly high dose when slurring drunk.

Before bed I take Dioralyte and Solpadeine dissolvable tablets in water.

You can try ibuprofen if you can't get Solpadeine.

In the morning I just take some water and some Berocca.

I've got some of that 5-HTP stuff this year as well and my mate bought 10 sachets of something called 180 that is meant to be great but is as yet untested on us

I am back in on the Tuesday - Its bloody horrible, I tend to cry quite a lot, bloody come downs. Last year driving to work on the Tuesday morning, Dreadzone came on in the car, and I just burst out crying! ludicrous. A few years back I went to Spain after Glasto, 6 of us went and only 2 of us had been to Glasto - flew the Tuesday morning at 6 - halfway through the journey I just started crying - I looked over to me pal to see him doing exactly the same. Just gets to you man. Make sure you drink loads of water, eat quite a bit through the day and you'll start to feel better. Its the tiredness that annoys me most, trying to keep me eyes open. Pain in the ass. But all worth it.

Getting back on it settles the stomach.

For a sore head, a combination of fry up, can of Relentless & a berocca with a couple of ibuprofen hits the spot for me.

Ibuprofen without food for me is like pissing in wind, does nothing. With food and it works a treat.

I like the week or so of vivid dreams afterwards, If I have a good festival Im usually riding the wave of glasto for a few weeks afterwards, plus this year im off to Lattitude so I'll deal with the major come down after that.

    • Hi all, first timer at trees this year volunteering with Oxfam. Any tips or suggestions of must-sees other than the main stages on my time off? I keep seeing chats about the silent disco?    Also any smaller bands recommendations? Sprints / Arcane Roots / High-Vis style. Cheers all 🤝
    • Tell me more. Last Latitude we went to was '21 - my son was young & had a wagon so we snuck good beers in that way. I remember there being some Brooklyn IPA on sale which was tolerable - are you saying they don't sell anything other than Carlsberg now?! 😳
