I think lessons will probably be learnt from last year; i.e. the less vehicle movement in the immediate run up the better. Some of the tractor tracks were super-deep on Wednesday, and never had a chance to recover.

isn't the expression making hay whilst the sun shines ... isn't it obvious to do more of the work whilst it is dry to minimise the effect on the land and do it over a longer period as long as it doesn't have too much of a detrimental effect off the workings of the farm , its great to see it happening earlier as I do always worry that it seems to all happen right at the end .. but they always seem to manage to pull it off though despite everything

Last year was badly affected by rain. The Whitelake overtopped and flooded areas needed for access on the Friday and made movement off hardstanding near impossible across site without creating the Somme effect. A lot of the build didnt finish until the Friday of the festival in areas. SE corner was particularly bad. I have been told that it was so bad Health and Safety were seriously considering cancellation so that is why the gates opened early. ME reasoned that once there were lots on site it had to go ahead and H&S couldn't do anything about it without starting a riot.

That's very interesting, and a typical ME strategy, if true. Gotta love the way that dude just wings it half the time.

Meanwhile, the boss thinks I've lost it over here. "THREE PILES OF DIRT!!', I barked. She came racing over, feigning interest and overcompensating as per usual with patronising coos. When she asked me to point out what was so exciting, and I showed her this, I think she genuinely started fearing for my mental health. I almost feel sorry for her having to put up with me for the next seven weeks.

Ha that's hilarious. I tried explaining what Glastonbury even was to someone in my office this morning after I had made my triumphant entrance proclaiming this to be a great week.

She knew who Ed Sheeran was obvs, but said the other two (I couldn't be arsed to try naming more than the headliners to her) are "a bit grungy aren't they". Then when I explained I wouldn't be watching Ed her shock was hilarious.

I'm always amazed at how 'far down' the Park Hill the Ribbon Tower seems, when it goes up. I think of it as at the 'top of the Park', but there's so much space above it.

Show's how big The Park is compared to how it looks from the webcam, and therefore how mind-bogglingly Big the whole site is, given how small a part of it The Park represents!

Which is why I've never understood the attraction - when you can get a better view by simply climbing the hill behind the tower.  No queueing and you get the added bonus of the tower itself being part of the vista.

Both knackering as hell to climb with a few days and a hangover under your belt

i went up for the first time last year, on a whim as there was no queue when we were there at 4am.

it was great!  you can get higher up on the hill, but the feeling of hanging over the festival from the top of the tower was brilliant!

For me the best bit was the walking up and down.  Like being inside a rainbow!

I hear what you say gentlemen.  Perhaps I shall broaden my outlook this year and climb the tower.

    • It can take around 30-45 mins to walk from the arena back to the transport hub with the crowds, depending on density. Allow even longer in poor conditions. I don't think you'd need to leave Linkin Park early though, you have at least an hour and 20 minutes to walk to transportation. I certainly wouldn't leave early in your shoes, knowing I can just walk to the airport if needs be (2 mile walk and another 30 - 45 min walk depending on your walking speed and conditions.) Maybe just don't linger too long for the toilet / food after Linkin Park have finished.  It will definitely make sense and all just fall into place on the night, don't worry too much and have a great time. The very worst that can happen is a little extra walking to the Airport Skylink bus stop, as those Skylink busses are 100% 24 hour. 🙂  GFS, ICON and ECMWF are ALL in agreement on the latest runs.... After a mildly moist Weds and Thurs, high Pressure building from Friday... Lets just hope they continue to agree... ☀️☀️☀️
