What would you like then mate as a way to open it?

The sun is shining today fella. Have a listen to the The Charlatans - The Charlatans. It has none of their 'BIG' hits on it. But it is the perfect summer album. It will put a smile on your face.

I saw The Charlatans at V a few years ago when they replaced Dappy. They were half way up the order on the 2nd stage and it was raining. They seemed lifeless and dull. But I think they are the perfect fit to open Glastonbury. I for one will be looking forward to it, hung over or nor :-)

They were a replacement for Dappy?

As in that prick with the stupid collection of hats?

I had no idea they had fallen so far

I do not know what people want as an opener.

Prince.

Blur.

Pulp.

Radiohead.

Andrew WK.

I'll be there for them. They were ace at 6music, however their last three albums have been shite imho.

Sparkys Dream has just came on the radio and now I want it to be Teenage Fanclub.

Good music transcends expectations. A music fan with an open mind will enjoy the Charlatans.

Agree with this, and this is why The Hives did so well in the spot after Beady Eye. An enthusuasitc band with cracking pop songs really got people up for the day.

maybe.

trouble is, i've heard a fair bit of their output over the last 20 years. it's not just my mind that's shut to them these days, my ears are too.

also the fact that there's some far more appealing options than a middling indie band on the festival's most soulless stage.

but that's just me, i hope those that go have a great morning.

Beyond not wanting someone I really dislike I don't really care. I'm not into getting up and about for music that early and I only care as much as I do because I camp at the bottom of Park Home. Whoever I wanted would probably be received more badly by an expectant Friday morning Other stage crowd than The Charlatans anyway.

The point was you're being over optimistic as to what the crowd will want and what kind of reaction they're going to get.

How I read all of eastynh's posts... ;)

Yet the ironic thing is that Depeche Mode are my fave ever group. Most of my record collection consists of Italian house and hardcore rave tunes from the South of England and the two acts I am looking forward to at Glastonbury are Hot Chip and the Altern8 live PA on the Sunday.

I do have an open mind and willing to give anything ago. I have admitted that I do have a liking for a lot of Manchester and northern bands. But you have to bear in mind that most of the country did when I was growing up. It was not just people in the North that liked the Smiths, New Order, Oasis, Stone Roses and so on. I like them because they are good, not because they come from the north of England.

This site has opened my eyes to a lot of new stuff and I have tried to absorb a lot of it. Don't write me off as some blinkered music snob who only listens to stuff that comes from within the M60.

For the last two years the music fans with open minds were over watching Jupiter & Okwess International / Turtle Island on the Pyramid Stage, not some throwbacks who've spent the last decade in a permanent state of 'can't get arrested'.

I'm thinking of checking out Michael Clark Company on Pyramid this year. Last year I woke up too late for Turtle Island, then tried to get to The War on Drugs but stupidly thought I could cut through the Other field and got stuck in the Blondie crush.

Yeah - I think that'll be my plan as well, and then on to the Cambodian Space Project at West Holts. Had a listen to the latter and confirmed my suspicions that they're a bit Dengue Fever-esque. Would have far preferred the Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band, but there are probably worse ways to kick things off.

Actually, that's a bit unfair. They sound better than Dengue Fever - a bit more upbeat and a bit more fun.

Who was the person from here tweeting about any special guest information during the festival last year? That was extremely helpful

Muppetmark, but I think he's going to the festival this year so won't be doing it again.

I'm been in touch with MuppetMark and am going to be taking over the SecretGlasto twitter account this year. I can't promise to do as good as job as he did, especially with having parental duties on the weekend, but I'm certainly going to have a go.

Not getting the Charlatans hate. New album Modern Nature is really good and Come Home Baby is a cracking track as is In the Tall Grass. With their back catalog I think it will be a great stage opener.

Think I will tootle over to this, will be a very pleasant way to come round if the sun is shining. Immediately followed by a beery shouty Cribs set.

So what will they open with? For a secret set it has to be one of their better known songs so people recognise who they are.

Looking at recent sets I think that has to be "Sproston Green", "one to another", "How high", or most probably the ironically/aptly titled "The only one I know"!

Stellar work - though Vodafone's lack of SMS alerst might kibosh any advantage I can take from it this time around.

You can get around that by buying a cheap (i.e. about £10) PAYG simcard for the 3 network - which I think is the only one that supports Twitter SMS alerts in the UK. Slap that in yer phone and job done!

Just remember to tell all your mates your new mobile number.

I don't get any negativity towards them opening? An hour of brilliant songs to kick the festival off properly. I think people need to start accepting that the Other Stage opener is not going to be a big player. Seen all sorts of big names mentioned this year by people guessing.
