Johnny Marr was quality at Finsbury Park. PiL were... Different. Not to everyone's taste but seeing John Lydon was one ticked off my list. 

Miles Kane and Johnny Marr were excellent support. I also wanted to see Lydon, but I had to wander off after a while ... I found it pretty cringey as he tried so hard to be edgey.

I had the worst support at Heaton Park. Plan B who was dire once he'd done Strickland Banks. The Collective are a great concept but end up as caberet and its cool to see the Wailers ...but .... no.

Lazy post. They went down well, and played two Oasis songs which went down brilliantly.

Maybe its just you. Weren't you at The Kaiser Chiefs aswell? Can't see how they were anything but amazeballs!

Seriously though I still chuckle at the thought of their flag rolling down from the roof of the stage when a few people thought it may be Prince.

I was just leaving the bar (after queuing for 3 days) at the top of the hill with 4 pints in my hands and 8 of those little bottles of wine in my pocket (wasn't gonna queue again) and everyone was just milling about chatting. Then the opening guitar chords of What's the Story started. My heart sank as I waited for the extremely drunk "lads" to realise what the song was and sure enough by the time I'd made it back down the hill to Mrs scruff through all the bouncing I had about half the liquid on me that I'd set of with.

They definitely went down well in that section of the crowd (well the Oasis songs did anyway). 

The bit about the bar rings bells here mate although I think I was there on a different day to you.

Did you have to " persuade "  the bar staff to give you back the tops for the bottles of wine ?

Think I even had a couple stuffed in the sock..........I`m not joking. Taps on 

Still swithering here about the Etihad. Anyone been to a gig there and got experience of bar q`s etc ?

Think I would go down if I had a pitch ticket but am even thinking a day ticket to T in the Park would suit me better and I never thought I would go back there.

Its pretty bad early doors, but no where near as bad as the gigs Ive been to at Heaton Park - but Ive always gone to the pubs over the road anyway (the ones I never go to when we went to City away as they were home fans!)

 

Later on its a case of walk up, buy drink, leave - no problems.

Cheers mate. The thought of having a seat high up in one of the stands and a massive bar q is puting me off and pushing me towards the T idea. Good point about the Roses crowd and bars. Glasgow Green was as bad as Heaton.

Why does virtually every thread turn into a Beady Eye bashing session? Thought they were alright at Heaton Park but nothing special - the Oasis tunes sounded flat without Noel's backing vox but they were well received by the masses.

On the booze front, I managed to sneak half a bottle of whiskey in in my boxers. Got straight to the front circle and only had to nip out twice throughout the whole day - once for a wee and the once to stock up on mixers from the queueless burger van.

As for these gigs, I won't be bothering. It's expensive, the Etihad's shit, there's little chance of any support that I'm that arsed about and I'd rather leave the memories to the Heaton Park bash. If they turn up at Glastonbury I'll be there with bells on though, legitimate whiskey and luke-warm Aldi cola x in hand.

One of the absolute best Roses tunes, astonishing stuff. The Second Coming is hugely underrated.

Seriously, there are so many good singalongs on The Second Coming. Good Times, Tightrope... I'm firmly in the "love it" camp!

This talk of Beady Eye reminded me of my favourite "overheard and made me laugh" at Glasto. We wandered over to catch some of their set at 2013. While we were standing somewhere near the back listening to Liam absolutely murder Morning Glory, a woman walked past us, turned round to her mate and said: "Who's this, an Oasis tribute band?"

I remember at Reading '09 rushing to the tent to see Faith No More my (admittedly drunken) better half looked over at KOL on the main stage and dismissively said "alright mate, you're OK but you're no Caleb".

Why the hell she thought a KOL covers band would be playing the main stage at Reading at 10pm is beyond me. And her.

Blossoms would be good as would Courteeners. Seeing Happy Mondays at the weekend at Shiiine Weekender. Bez doing a pool party!!

PiL were atrocious.  Johnny Marr was good and I enjoyed Miles Kane too. One of the few all day events where I've actually done the full day.

If you escaped the caterwauling of Liam, then either you were late or there on a different day. Although I think the aftershocks of how bad he sounded could probably still be experienced on the Sunday.  

I'm pretty sure the wine was opened, and don't think they'd give me the tops back. We'd got there early and got wristbands for in front of the barrier so after I'd experienced that bar queue, I never went back (I wasn't intending on buying that much booze in one go when I started queuing - but as it took me practically the whole Beady Eye set and more to get served, I loaded up). 

Spoke to Mrs scruff last night and we've decided not worth the money. I thought she'd be more bothered than I and I'd have gone along if she really wanted. If we're more flush come June we'll scoot over and buy on the gate.

it's not about damage with a bottle top, it's a condition of the license.  drinks sold have to be consumed on the premises and not resold, and opening the bottle or can, in theory, means that will be the case.

Try throwing a bottle without a lid and then try again without one, you'll be able to see the difference in the power and weight behind the throws

You could knock someone clean out with a full closed bottle whereas an open bottle to the head would just be an inconvenience to the other person

You'd hope so but some very accurate punches seem to go in at stone roses/courteeners etc gigs. and the bottles always hit someone, and its never another "lad" from what ive seen....
