A little off topic, but my 7-year old asked me the other day "Daddy, what does a DJ do?" so I played her a few of the sets from YouTube on this thread. Had a good little dance. 😃

It wasn't until afterwards I thought to ask her why she wanted to know... I'd forgotten she has her first ever school disco coming up and one of the teachers will be DJing. I fear I may have given her totally unrealistic expectations for what it's going to be like!

Or you'll feel very smug when the teacher plays their jungle classic setlist

Sounds like the perfection time to teach her how to DJ! She'll be smashing out a deconstructed techno set at 4am in Block 9 before you know it.

I'd have to figure it out myself first 😂 She is quite into music though, I might see if there's any DJ or mixing apps or games we can have a play with.

I think (?) there's a decent number of us in this thread that DJ, so if you or your daughter do want to get into it at any point give us a bell!

- How was the school disco, darling?

- Awful, pure anthem bashing, they even dropped The Nine FFS

letter from the school - 'your daughter has been kept behind after school. The reason for this stopping the music by spinning the DJ equipment and shouting "easy man, wheel up wheel up big tune!" and making a gun shape with her fingers

It would be a very very cool skill to pick up for later life I reckon! Also, I read a stat that only 6% of DJ's are female, so anything to tackle that gender gap as well.

good grief i hope these boys show up somewhere good.

in other music news, BUFO's residency kicks off tonight at 11 which i will for sure be tuning into !

another one who's done a Rinse Mix this month is Salute, who i'm surprised not to see anywhere on the bill just yet, seemed destined for Silver Hayes

Certainly didn't expect this from Mall Grab! Can't work out if I love it or hate it.

Had a listen yesterday. I quite like it, dude seems to be a bit all over the place style-wise, which I don't mind.

Wonder if there's any chance he's at Block 9, would defo enjoy a Genosys set with him.

Yeah still expecting them, would be an Overmono-like weirdness for them not to be there.

Salute is absolutely sick but he’s not one im hugely surprised on not being there (yet), has only gotten traction fairly recently. Would be a great booking tho.

I'm gonna need some help on that Common lineup... I think the only name I know is Blawan.

Seems odd - I definitely normally know more of that area than I seem to this year, but maybe that's just how things go.

    • RIP Roy Hattersley
    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
