suppose macca would make sense with kanye connection, but his set will be the same surely?! at least blur have a new album

He could always sing the 'Frog Chorus'. That would be different.

are blur REALLY gonna be that bothered about tarnishing their last glasto show?? im sure their egoes are big enough to think they can do it well again, they obvs arent that bothered about doing similar gigs as per hyde park again

yeah, on here is literally the only place i've ever heard about this magical Blur 2009 performance. i doubt the band themselves care about "tarnishing" it when they've a new album to promote and a comeback happening. i doubt the tens of thousands of people going this year who didn't see Blur the first time care what 2009 was like.

Looks like the bookers have let it too late, gotten themselves in a bit of trouble, and Damon Albarn has beaten Chris Martin in the a game of rock, paper, scissors for who's going to step up and save the day.

assuming that they didn't actually have someone tied down months ago, and Blur haven't actually been signed this entire time and were expecting their own gig to sell much better....

'Tis a bit weird, the whole 'tarnishing 2009' talk. If Bowie was doing it, we wouldn't be discussing him 'tarnishing 2000', and yet any set by him would almost undoubtedly fail to live up to the heights of 2000 - given his illness etc.

I guess Blur have been quite active since 2012, which takes the shine off a little bit, but I still think they'd put on an excellent show.

Stone roses ehhhh! ;)

(I know...)

Edit: but surely if this long awaited new album did surface, and if it came with gigs, that would throw them back into the frame?

Well Mani is in France and not growing a beard. Unless Mani is sending his parts for the new album by email or rehearsing via Skype then unfortunately it does not seem to be the Roses.

From what ive seen people suggest on here we'd have, The Fall and James headlining the pryamid and The who and the Stone Roses headlining the other. its madness!

James would be far more enjoyable headlining the Pyramid than the Roses. They are far better live and have far more songs to choose from.

exactly!

' ooh we've been asked to do glasto, we will get loads of publicity we can do a new setlist AND it went really well last time!'

'yeah, but what about tarnishing 2009's performance?

'ITS OFF!'

i think with Blur it's because it's such a recent 'they absolutely nailed it' headliner. the same generation of people will be going to see them, whereas with Bowie i guess a whole new generation of people have discovered him since. obviously it won't live up to '09, but considering i wasn't there, that means nothing to me, and i'll love every minute of it (although as i've said, i don't think i can get that excited over them playing, especially since i'd psyched myself up for Prince, and the initial hype of their reunion has definitely waned now)

no it hasn't.

http://www.blur.co.uk/news/blur-headline-isle-wight-festival-june-13-21706

"Blur are confirmed to headline the Isle of Wight Festival on Saturday June 13. Tickets are available now at www.isleofwightfestival.com/tickets

With BST Hyde Park on June 20 - ticket still available at www.bst-hydepark.com - this completes the band's UK festival appearances for 2015."

Pretty much the same situation with me - I saw one of their warm-up shows in 2012 but the 2009 set is what got me into both them and Glastonbury. I don't think it would live up to the last time, but it'd be the first Sunday headliner I'd look forward to since 2010. The 2012 shows weren't as good as 2009 appeared, but that didn't stop me enjoying it!

I admit Bowie has an element of mystique about him now, but ultimately we're talking about a show which would consist of similar material (or at least that's what people would want) 15 years later. You're right about the 'new generation' stuff though.

From Albarn's perspective, I wonder if Blur this year would be 'tarnishing 2009' or 'making up for 2010'. I'm willing to bet its the latter.

So it's been removed from the tour section, just not the news section?

Seems that way - maybe nobody thought of altering old press releases............. but then press releases are only correct at the time of release. A tour schedule page and associated information is correct all the time (or at least should be).

Blur would hardly be an inspired booking though would it? That's the only issue i'll have personally if they play.

A bump up for Florence/Foals etc would at be a risky, but it's a great opportunity to propel these acts to the next level.

Blur are just a safe booking. In 09 it was a real coup for the festival, but they've toured a fair bit since and released a mediocre new album and them headlining this year will create nowhere near as much buzz.

the album hasn't been released or leaked yet - how do you know it's mediocre?
