Somehow managed to shield myself from the Flo machine. Couldn't name one tune of hers and having just youtubed that Spectrum tune, it sounds vaguely familiar.

Someone linked some brilliant covers she's done the other day. An incredible version of the rat which was miles better than the original, and a version of oh! darling that well and truly puts mccartneys vocals to shame.

Despite the obvious sarcasm, yes, I searched for them, yes I listened to them, and yes, you're a bollocks.

Edit: I must thank you though as my "listening to a bit of a Flo at the moment" phase lasted about 4 minutes. Never to return.

How long ago did Liam Howlett say that The Prodigy weren't playing? Long enough time for a previously contracted headliner to pull out and for them to agree a deal with GFL? Sunday is still the only day they can play. They are also headlining IoW like Fleetwood Mac. Just a thought but maybe there is an agreement in place that they give IoW a chance to sell out (or at least maximises the opportunity to) before they make an announcement?

Probably not though. Wants Prodigy, Prince or Bowie, expects Fleetwood Mac, Blur or Florence

The Prodigy have sold out all of their UK tour dates, though, so they'd have no reason to hold back the announcement :/

I think my biggest problem with Florence headlining is that arguably her most successful song is a cover. I think she's at least one (successful) album away from Glasto headline status

My biggest problem with Florence headlining is that she isn't very good at singing in tune.

Surely one of you can find the singles sales and put yer squabbles to bed, or at the very least use YouTube views and a barometer of popularity

If we're using youtube views then for her own stuff it's Dog Days Are Over and Shake It Out, but Sweet Nothing (the Calvin Harris song) is far bigger than both of them.

On Youtube:

You've Got The Love - 33,516,586 views
Dog Days Are Over - 52,886,298 for 2010 version, 8,739,828 for original

Surprisingly, Dog Days Are Over seems more popular - although that might be because the 2010 version of DDAO came out when she was bigger than when YGTL came out.

Both Spectrum and Sweet Nothing were #1 singles.

Yeah well the YT thing probably aint the best way as the older tunes obviously have the head start............

All I know is her squawking has become a lot more omnipresent in recent years spanning all sorts of radio stations and TV channels which would suggest to me that her more recent stuff is proving to be more popular as it is hitting a bigger audience

You're lucky I couldn't find her cover of House of Cards!

The interrogation room at Guantanamo Bay must have gone through a few F5 keyboard buttons at this stage with that amount of views. Shes done her bit for counter terrorism, can't deny her that.

"WHERES BIN LADEN?!!"

"BURN IN HELL YOU CAPITALIST PIG"

*hovers finger over F5"

"Abbottabad"

"cheers"

    • Ive always had a lot of time for the mighty Shots, a pal of mine used to commentate on their games for Sussex Counties radio and he'd sneak me into the ground for midweek games, and we'd even nick a tea and a plate of sandwiches. This is back in the George Borg days, so um . . a little while ago now
    • Hmm, weird- Rush are playing the Co-Op live on the 12th and the 14th, and Megadeth are the meat in that sandwich - so they have to roll everything in, roll it out again, only to roll it back in and then out - here's hoping for a prog hokey-cokey with all manner of bizarre time signatures and drum solos!
    • Depends what you mean by seeing 'more stuff' about it.    I definitely don't trust the original Sun article.

    • Chill. There is no chance Sziget will be cancelled by the government. Even the prime minister held a press conference today, where he confirmed this.   Magyar said they do not want to shut down the country or prevent events from taking place. He gave the example that vetoing an event would be like completely cutting off a large consumer’s electricity supply for the organizers. However, just as they have not taken such a measure against large consumers, they have not taken steps to cancel events either. (Magyar did not name a specific event, but he was presumably referring specifically to the Sziget Festival.) At the same time, Péter Magyar stressed that if disruptions occur in the system or the heatwave persists, it could become necessary to postpone or reschedule events (example: some Hungarian football games will probably be held in daylight, moved to a few hours earlier, to save energy), although he believes there is currently little chance of that happening. This is particularly true for events that rely entirely, or largely, on their own energy sources.
