I can't see QOTSA ever headlining. They're in a similar situation to The National. They've built up a seriously solid, dedicated fan base simply by sticking it out so long, but they'll never have the broad appeal to make it above Glastonbury subs.

The difference is that the national only appeal to terminally dull pitchfork readers.

I know this because my mate who was watching Queens of the Stone Age said he'd never seen an exodus like it at the end of QOTSA's set. Is Jake Bugg's fanbase not fairly heavily populated with 'current or former angst ridden teen girls'? Always seemed that way to me.

I genuinely think that now the novelty of the first album has worn off, he's going to find it tough to sustain his profile. I'm not sure that he's really built on that first album buzz. The second didn't do as well, did it? (Genuinely don't know, just going on my gut feeling)

QOTSA are still a good band making good albums but I think them changing the lineup all the time has dented their live show a little, I don't know what it is but I'm not sure they are not quite as charismatic or have as much energy as they used to. I think if Nick Oliveri was still in the band they might have been a lot more popular now as he was quite a recognisable figure. Maybe it's Josh Home's laid back approach to being a front man that makes him a bit more unnoticed than others. They are still good enough to headline festivals though and are in my opinion in the top ten rock bands of the 21st century.

While you're right, I don't think they as a band or the genre have the appeal at Glastonbury to play the slot they'd warrant. Which is either headliner or sub.
