I'm not really expecting him next year, tho if he continues to go how he has (as one of the UK's most popular acts) I really wouldn't be surprised if he headlines in 2016 .... particularly as his booking agent is one of the more chummy agents with the Eavii (he's normally one of the 'Emerging Talent' judges).

Also I'm sure he made noises when Caustic Love was released that suggested his next record was already ready to go and would be released at a similair time next year. Though obviously that doesn't guarantee he'd play Glasto and V again next year, he could of course tour album four for 18 months before doing the festival circuit again in 2016.

Plus I don't think Radiohead will do it next year, they're more likely to headline 2016, their pace for doing things nowadays is really quite slow. They'll bring out their album in summer 2015, and then after a break they'll start their tour late 2015/early 2016.

Edit: Whether or not they will headline also depends on how well the new album will do popularity-wise/how Thom Yorke feels about doing big shows and playing enough old stuff to keep people happy

I see it the other way - he deserved the Pyramid stage this year but possibly accepted a shit slot on the basis that he headlines outright next time he's around?

Maybe. Sounds crazy enough to work. :P

I feel like Foals will almost definitely headline the other stage next year, they're headlining bestival this year, and are becoming more of a headline-worthy band than a middle-of-the-day one.

No chance really. They subbed it last year and without a new record it'll be the exact same set an hour or so later. Sub/third Pyramid if Pilton Party still does hold any sort of guarantee but I don't think they'll play anywhere next summer.

I'm thinking that either one of those could be true.

Like it or not, Paolo is one of the biggest album sellers & one of the biggest ticket sellers around, and he has been for a few years now.

So off the back of that, along with the chummy-ness of his agent with the Eavii, I'll go slightly more with Zac's idea.

Of course, he'd still need to hitting it big when that opportunity comes around in a few years. I don't think they'd keep an offer like that open for someone whose star has faded a fair chunk.

Plus I have a big hunch that Foo Fighters are going to headline next year, with a new album coming out around the same time in the year as Arcade Fire's last year.

I reckon it's likely that they'll have an offer on an exclusive basis from R/L - and given how much Grohl likes R/L, plus the much more substantial fee from R/L, I reckon that's what they'd do.

I know that regular convos have been had with the Foos in the past, and that's never yet lead to Glasto appearance - because they always go for R/L.

If Paolo wants to headline stuff like Isle of Wight or V ( With the big money), he needs to prove he can headline somewhere else first. Something Like Glasto would be perfect for that jump up.

I hope the Foos' don't do Reading again: maybe in two years time. Bit boring for them just to do that!

only headlined in 2012 so i really can't see them returning just three years later. that's the only reason i see them as a possibility for Glastonbury - that it'd be far too soon to do Reading/Leeds again yet they have a new album to promote so will assumingly headline somewhere (possibly TITP as well). unless they're not planning on doing any festivals next year, which doesn't seem very likely (and i'm assuming Download / Sonisphere don't have them)

Not sure how that works? Surely the smaller festivals are where you should have to prove yourself a headliner and work your way up to Glasto, not the other way around? :P

Agree on the Foos though. Go somewhere else to let a different crowd see you Dave for pity's sake :P Although if this record really has taken in the heavier direction as has been suggested, maybe their time to do Glasto has passed? Idk.

It does. The offer to play PP is wrapped together with a Festival offer too.

It has to be combined, because any payment for doing PP is very minimal.

Oh. I was mistakenly under the impression it was more of a 'scratch my back...' thing rather than anything actually contractual. I'd still be surprised if they came back next summer though as it'd actually be kinda detrimental to their chances of headlining with a new album.

Could the festival offer be for 2016 when they expect to have an album? Would make more sense unless Foals have it ready to be recorded and want to strike while the iron is still hot.

However heavy the new album is, they still have tonnes of hits, and it'll still be a damn site less heavy than Metallica.

I think they'd go down as well as almost anyone.

they're not a popular choice on here but in the real world i think people would go apeshit (in a good way) if Foos finally headlined Glastonbury. Foos, Fleetwood and somebody else would be a very strong set of headliners in a lot of people's eyes (much moreso than this years, regardless of who the third headliner is)

also, on the Foals front, they're not gonna headline off the back of their new album either way so it really doesn't hurt their chances of anything. far more likely to headline Reading and Leeds off the back of their new album (if anywhere) i'd say, and then Glastonbury next time round (so not for a good few years), although the chances of them returning next year in a Pyramid slot without any new material would be a bit strange, so maybe they're further along with the new album / something than they've let on (didn't they say they were gonna have something ready for Bestival? although that's obviously not happening)

I'm thinking an Other Stage headline is more of a possibility.

On the headline front I feel the third act (other than Foo Fighters & Fleetwood Mac) will surprise us , like Daft Punk eventually coming around, or David Bowie, or Kanye West even

Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fighters and Adele is pretty much the biggest trio of headliners Glastonbury could get, and none of them have headlined before. I'd rather Kanye over Foos, though, classic rock band - current rapper - current female singer is nicely diverse.

They'll definitely be in contention for a headline slot next album if they're headlining Bestival and probably around sub level now.

but they're not on sub level - they're on Other sub level; where they played in 2013 when Holy Fire was released. what's changed since then? apart from them going on to be the smaller headliner at Bestival?

Oh. I was mistakenly under the impression it was more of a 'scratch my back...' thing rather than anything actually contractual.

Oh, I doubt it has anything 100% legally contractual written down, so it is a back-scratching thing to a large degree.

The point is that the 'deal' is Glasto returning the 'favour' to that act by the act having a more prominent slot at the festival than they might otherwise have. The convo with the band that gets them to PP will have a contra convo about their festival slot.

A year full of major festival slots and continuous praise for their album does a band a lot of good. Wouldn't say they're the smaller Bestival headliner at all either; strongest after Outkast even. Do you think Latitude and Bestival are the same level and Foals could've headlined that last year? I don't personally. Edited by dentalplan

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
