But will you're a metal head.

But the things is I'm not really. I love folk music, blues rock and some punk. Recently I have tried to widen my taste of music. Yes I do love and prefer metal (mosh pits, high gain guitar, double bass drums) but I can open up to other bands. Arcade Fire being an epitomising example of an indie band (yes indie band) who I love.

I don't know why they featured on a compilation indie CD I got then.

(sorry for the double post)

Because the record labels will do anything to group and package something up and sell it to you :P

In reality "Indie" isn't much of a genre to class anything as and has barely any meaning left these days but the Hives are more "rock" than say the Strokes who would be a classed as typical indie band.

Just realised you mentioned the Hives after the Kooks as being "indie" ?! Fuck no!

My brother went to see fleetwood mac last year as his girlfriend is a massive fan, him not so much, he was absolutely blown away by how big a sound they have live and said performance wise it was out of this world

i'd go see them if there was nobody else on (rather than not see anybody at all) but if there's anybody i remotely like on elsewhere that is where i shall be. i just can't see myself getting excited by Fleetwood Mac, even if they do have a few belters

Exactly how I feel, I'd love to see The Chain, Go Your Own Way, Everywhere, Landslide. But I feel like I only know 'The Hits'... and wouldn't wanna be one of those awkward people stood waiting for a song they recognise.

Why does it have to be awkward waiting for a song you recognise? Can you not enjoy musical output unless you already know it?

Different if you know it and actively dislike the rest of their output.

Some of my favourite sets at Glastonbury is stuff that was almost completely unknown to me, this year for instance I watched all of Alexis Taylor's set at the Glade for a fantasticly chilled hour and didn't know one song he played before hand! and only a knew couple of songs Will & The People had done before but they was fantastic in Crossient Neuf. (There was also a fantastic band I didn't know at all before I went on the Crossient Neuf Bandstand on wednessday who gathered quite a crowd who really enjoyed it...should really look them up!!! It was kind of like the levellers with a brass section if I remember rightly :P)

I recently came accross the most jaw dropping example of this. The following is the track listing from CD1 of Now That's What I Call Rock!

  1. Bastille - Pompeii
  2. Coldplay - Paradise
  3. Nickelback - Rockstar
  4. Razorlight - America
  5. The Automatic - Monster
  6. Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby
  7. The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger
  8. MGMT - Kids
  9. The Fray - How To Save A Life
  10. Scouting For Girls - She's So Lovely
  11. Train - Drive By
  12. Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
  13. Biffy Clyro - Many Of Horror
  14. Imagine Dragons - Radioactive
  15. Kodaline - High Hopes
  16. Klaxons - Golden Skans
  17. The 1975 - Chocolate
  18. HAIM - The Wire
  19. The Kooks - Naïve
  20. Jake Bugg - Lightning Bolt
  21. Mumford & Sons - I Will Wait

I don't think it's what anyone would call rock. CDs 2 & 3 aren't much better.

I'd probably watch about half of Fleetwood, just to say I have seen the Mac. But I must only know two songs ATM. So not a listener at all. Just depends on clashes if they play at all though.

I think someone like Fleetwood or someone who is from the same era of music is needed for next year after somewhat of a modern set of headliners after last (I know Tallica aren't modern but they are just a different matter (or sort of band)).

While I hear you, it's slightly different circumstances for a headliner (and even more so if you've been on the sauce all day beforehand).

Noooooo waaaay.

Coldplay Paradise, kodaline, mgmt and just to finish me off Bumford and Sons!!!! What is this nonsense.

Maybe, I mean if you know the hits you'd know most of the set really, they are hardly going be doing rare b -sides for a headline set are they ?

Plus you know, you could listen to a bands other stuff before hand :P

Yes because goodness only knows what Glastonbury needs is to abandon the concept of variety, arguably its greatest strength, and book that kind of line-up which would in turn start attracting the sort of complete arseholes who went to Reading this year.

If Jake Bugg is there for the third year running I'll kill myself. Or him. Probably him.

Killing Jake Bugg sounds like a cause I could get behind, NFB NFC.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
