JGP
I'm sure someone posted one of their rants a while back about how they deserve to headline so I'd have been shocked if they'd have accepted a sub slot after saying stuff like they did
Supernintendo Chalmers
“We are still hesitating about the second night headliner at the moment,” Michael added. “Two or three bands are capable of it. We are trying to get confirmation of the band of our choice.” http://www.thisisthewestcountry.co.uk/news/somerset_news/11162996.FEATURE__Michael_Eavis_talks_Glastonbury_Festival/?ref=var_0 hmmmmm.... Tr234
Taking Michael's comments literally, with "150,000 people having forked out their money" I'm guessing that leaves around 27,000 in the resale? Plus, Kasabian being 'Madchester Men'. Not sure about that one!
dan8k
I thought they only sell 135,000 tickets though?

kalifire
Whatever he said in the interview is irrelevant. His comments were given before the balance payment window, and before the line up was announced. It's just poor journalism.
eFestivals
Wait, so you were dumb by not believing it, which means you now believe it??Q said Kasabian were headlining long before anyone really thought they might be. And they were the first to say anything about Metallica by a long long way.Plus, I've had a convo with Emily about Glasto planting that story in Q. eFestivals
I think it was Prince they were meant to sub on the Sunday, then Saturday's headliner falling through meant they then wanted Prince for Saturday night and Kasabian were bumped up. It was Arcade Fire that was supposed to have replaced Fleetwood Mac. I'd take all that with a pinch of salt though really. Kasabian agreeing to sub seems really kinda off to me, having headlined everywhere else. You shouldn't. It's not so often that I get good in-depth background and a whole trail of circumstances, but this is one of them.
Martin Ashford
I could definitely see Metallica up against Kasabian. I can also see them being perfectly happy to sub another act, especially at this festival. The last time I saw them they were subbing AC/DC at Download in ' 91 and that worked very well for them. It would actually make a lot of sense - if they flopped no big deal. If they win the crowd over they are invited back to headline with both parties feeling confident. As I have said elsewhere, having a serious metal band headlining is an off the scale risk for the organisers because there is no precedent and the audience is just not used to seeing metal at Glastonbury. Things might be different if they had tried out more bands like Saxon, Motorhead and Judas Priest over the years but they haven't so they are in uncharted territory. sheffieldlady
The waiting and reading is all adding to the excitement for me. I like the idea of potentially, having both Metallica and Prince on the line-up and would love to see Metallica on the Sunday on Other Stage. But I guess (it seems to be) having the imaginary ball in Princes court.

eFestivals
Seriously? You reckon this is still going on? Surely they're 95% the Pyramid by now? Is it just Prince who would play the Pyramid if Metallica was on Other, or could it be someone else? FM? Anyone else? Makes the problems finding a headliner in 2008 look pale in comparison (although it's nice to have sold the tickets this time!)what i mean is, that Metallica playing on the Saturday (and not another day) is an almost certainty.Whether or not Glasto have made a set-in-stone decision over the Pyramid headliner as yet I don't know. My own suspicion is that stuff might get swapped around up-until the point that the "contractual reasons" act is announced in May. After that time, if Prince is not a part of that same announcement I suspect all chances of Prince disappear.

A Guy Called Matt
Any idea when in May that the contractual reasons are due to be sorted?
sheffieldlady
Wishful thinking on the part of them playing Sunday To many clashes occurring on the Saturday already! I think the line-up will likely wait. I can't see them needing to announce the line up because people are asking. They will announce it when they want to
kalifire
I think Emily will give away some secrets, but they'll be about stages, areas and locations rather than acts. That's my prediction, anyway. I think the full line up will drop mid-May.
eFestivals
latest word I'm hearing (not to do with Glastonbury) is that Prince is still doing his "I'll only give you an answer when I'm ready and not when you want it" thing. It doesn't appear to be the case that the new deal with Warners has made him any more gig-happy. UEF
They should counter by saying "fine, your fee drops £10K for every day we don't get an answer"Mind you I suspect he could easily call their bluff there

eFestivals
Urgh. I'd love to see him there, but when I read that kind of thing, it makes me want him to delay so much that Glastonbury goes ahead with somebody else, then he tells them at the eleventh hour that he'll do it, and they tell him to fuck off.from the conversation I had with Emily about where something much like that happened with another festival and Prince, I got the impression it would pan out like that at Glastonbury too. GlastoSimon
Prince you silly man. If it's on 'his terms' then I can't see him making a decision before the May announcement personally.
Dixo
I wish Prince would stop being such a tit and just agree to play. This unnecessary dicking around is starting to put me off wanting to have him there and seeing him.
