Wednesday and Thursday Night

As we are Glastonbury virgins we are popping out preverbials this year at last, been a long time coming I can tell you. What I would like to know is what goes on on a Wednesday and Thursday night, i've done some research but its all a bit vagueoso i'm asking the experts and veterans of you lot out there for all you can tell me.

We usually use Wednesday to get our bearings, try and see as much of the site as possible, watch the sun go down (NFR NFC) and have a good wander around and get a feel for the place. You'll definitely want to do this if it's your first time.

Thursday things warm up a bit more and there's more stages open. Check the Clashfinder website before you go so you know what's on.

Apart from that, try not to plan too much, have a smile on your face, say hello, meet somebody new and have an amazing time!

Beer and cider, and marking out the food you'd like to try (and will probably end up missing out on cos I'm a bit crap like that). Aside from conspicuous consumption - which I really bloody love! - its a great opportunity to learn your way around the site, which is really bloody big. You'll be amazed by the size of it, but by Saturday afternoon you'll be chipping through shortcuts to find that jerk chicken place that smells so good. It's always jerk chicken for me!

Getting you barings and explore the site and sit down and relax... wednesday is pretty much all about.. the will be a few acts playing music here and there and a few things going on but mostly it's just the bars and food stands that are operating. So take it upon yourself to spend a night in a pub, or find a nice spot to take it all in.

Thursday has a few stages open and the is music on all day in the really small venues, the is more going on in general and is like a slightly more upbeat Wednesday, more stalls and attractions will be open and you'll have fun exploring. Also they will probably be some weird use of the pyramid fields like an olympics or something similar.

The oft repeated cliche on here is that Glastonbury isn't just about the music - and you'll discover that for yourself on the Wednesday and Thursday.

It's almost like two separate festivals - before and then with the music.

Walk as much as you can - you'll be gobsmacked by the scale of it all.

Get up into the Greenfields, walk up to the Stone(d) Circle - but DON'T TURN ROUND OR LOOK BEHIND YOU UNTIL YOU GET TO THE TOP. Then when you do turn round and the site unfolds below you it will be amazing.

I still do that every year and it never fails to have an impact.

Enjoy the food from all around the world but avoid the burger vans. You'll find lots of advice on here about recommended eateries. My personal choices are La Grande Bouffe where you must have a tartiflette and the Indian Veggie Curry stall run by Suresh and his family on the bridge as you enter West Holts.

When you've done all that you'll probably be thinking "bugger I suppose I'd better watch a bit of music."

Basically no acts on a Wednesday. Few bars open etc. More of a day just to set up camp, hang out etc.

Thursday is one of the best nights. There'll be one or two biggish acts on but probably avoid them cos the crowds will be too big. But you can wander round Shangri La, the Park, Arcadia etc and just have a party, safe in the knowledge that come Friday everything will be insanely hectic, filled with bands, confusing etc etc. Just don't go too hard on the Thursday. Quite hard, not too hard.

They are the best two days of the festival by far.

That moment on the first day when the sun is going down and it turns to dusk, the smell of BBQs/fires, the buzz of excitement of people around their campsites (aided by your own alcoholic buzz), the smell of the food stalls, the taste of cider....perfect stuff. This thread has got me excited!

wednesday is nice for pottering about in the day ( hopefully in sun again), i enjoyed wandering about the park , climbing the big hill and looking round the craft fields and there was a nice little bar selling cider and cheap pims.

When the sun went down there was a firework display by the stone circle which spurred us to go up there and after getting a bit squiffy i remember dancing at the glade by a place selling pizza and lots of people with flame torches.

Thursday more exploring and a few bands here and there not famous ones but good , at night we went to some silent disco thing which was ok but im sure better things were going on elsewhere

Personally, I like to stand on the railway line as it joins the Other stage field and listen to the soundchecking on the Thursday. All my mates think I'm weird every year, but the sound is incredible when there's no-one in the field.

Wednesday and Thursday for me are the best days of the festival.

Wednesday is generally spent soaking up the atmosphere (and the sunshine) and just appreciating the fact that I'm 'home' once again. The festival week is the only time all of my friends can completely relax, no one has to worry about tomorrow and we're free I suppose!

Thursday we spend wondering around and exploring. The greenfields are great and are a welcome getaway from the hustle n bustle of 'babylon'.

We usually just wander round smoking and looking for a food stall that *really* takes our fancy, which can take a few hours before we decide that maybe this magic perfect food stall doesn't exist, and then we find it!

I can never really remember what I do on the Wednesdays and Thursdays- however, they've started having more music on those days the past few years, so the time seems to pass quicker. Mainly they're good for pottering about, exploring, chatting, etc

It's strange- there's usually a brief spell on Thursday afternoon where I'm a bit bored/ in a foul mood and itching for things to get started, but by the end of the day I've become used to not having to rush round the main stages and kind of wish there was another day free before it all begins properly!

Wednesday- get in, get set up, have a snooze, chat to the neighbours, get a bit twatted, watch the fireworks in Stone Circle.

Thursday- go for a wander around places like the green fields, the circus fields and maybe the park. Get some lovely food, have a few drinks, explore and discover! Thursday is brilliant. Take your time, see things, sit down and watch the world go by. Splendid.

I would second that you walk up the back of Stone Circle or Flagtopia and don't look behind you until you get to the top! It is unforgettable.

Get more and more hammered.

Finish off at the stone circle and then back for a sleep. (Make sure you get enough sleep too, this is important on the wednesday)

Thursday - A decent feed (again important at this point)

Wander around, see what takes your fancy

Things ko on the thursday night, just get to what you want to see early!
