Just clarifying that I really don't want those headliners, but can't see us getting much better right now..

Also Tool have announced that they're working on an album, obviously they won't been seen near R&L but excited they've finally confirmed it.

Hmmm, Linkin Park were actually very good this year at Download but that was mainly due to the complete Hybrid theory thing. I'd probably go watch them again but there would have to be stronger headliners to get me there I think. Actually, who am I kidding, if Sonisphere isn't on I'll definitely go no matter who headlines. It can't be anyone as shit as Blink 182 again right?

Matt42, is he the one that has a source that definitely knows headliners but they turn out to be wrong and he made it up?

Reading is a festival in seriously fast decline, hopefully Melvin decides it's far too good a festival with too massive a history to lose to the degenerate shit plastic rock bands of today

There's only been a handful of acts to get really excited about the last 2/3 years, hopefully they pull a Soundgarden/Tool/Weezer/Smashing Pumpkins out the bag for high up on the main stage and keep with the NIN/SOAD from a few years ago rather than the drivel of last year

Headliner wise is there really any point in getting hopeful? Maybe we will get Slipknot or AC/DC ahead of download but I run out of ideas when it comes to headliners

I think dental argued this before, but it looks like August festivals may be dying out - bands wanna tour at June-July (start of the summer).

Jesus Christ.

If that is true then dental I am very disappointed.

I seem to remember someone making the point that the increase in US festivals during August/September, coupled with the lack of EU festivals at the end of summer compared to the beginning is probably going to have a negative on the headliner pool for R&L etc., meaning we will get more repeats sooner and more bands 'stepping up' as the need arises.

That argument (by whoever made it) is probably valid but it's certainly not a case of the festivals 'dying out'

Yeah I think I said something like that rather than that festivals were 'dying out'. They're doing fine but they pool of acts is much smaller, which became increasingly apparent when doing the Euro Festival Watch thing

Apart from Rock am ring, have any other major European festivals announced acts for next year?

No not really. Some other ones like Nova and Sweden Rock and a few acts for Roskilde but that's it. Guessing November has to be when the ball gets rolling properly but August fests largely won't announce until January or February.
