2014 Headliner predictions

Arcade Fire are certainly big enough to headline. We'll need to wait and see what happens with Kasabian in the next few months. As for Elbow, their gig in Glasgow is not selling well at all at the moment. We'll see what happens when the album comes out though.

They haven't even sold out the standing area, which is pretty small for a standing area.

Interesting speculation this year.

Am I right in thinking that Fleetwood Mac are looking very likely at the mo, given what little we know?

Does anyone have any hint that David Bowie or Daft Punk are at all likely? Other than them releasing albums last year of course.

Are Arcade Fire, Elbow or Kasabian considered big enough to headline?

I know that about 2 months ago that Glasto hadn't contacted Bowie, and I know about 2 months ago that Daft Punk were happy to have proposals sent to them (which they weren't for this year) but that no decision had yet been made about whether they'd actually be taking any of them up.

I think both are unlikely.

I completely agree, they are just such a bread and butter festival act. I saw them at Reading, and i did really enjoy it, but i really don't think that they are that special. They put on a decent show but it's not something that will stand out as one of the best headliners you've ever seen, they were completely blown away by the Foo Fighters the next night

So they certainly wouldn't be a poor Glastonbury headliner, just a bit boring compared to some of the alternatives, but i do think it looks like they will headline in the next 2/3 years

Oh, no idea! I just assumed they'd got rid of the whole thing!

nope, it's not dead, for the moment at least. Live Nation are looking for another sponsor for their 'calling' brand (it was originally called Hyde Park Calling).

(when I write a sentence that says "looking for another sponsor for their '<anything>' brand" it makes me wanna puke).

any reason why Arcade Fire are down as a rumour under 'unknown stage' rather than the Pyramid? surely they could only be Pyramid headliners

first time looking at the rumours in a long time. do people really believe that Oasis will reform in the next year!? surely it's not likely at all

I don't think we can expect Bowie. He has headlined Glasto already, which goes against what Eavis said about all three headliners for next year not having done it before. Also he hasn't toured for 10 years and has outright said that he has no plans to play live next year... I can't see him putting together a whole show JUST for Glasto.

i'd love Kanye to play over anybody else. controversial choice but he'd be amazing. a lot of the names being thrown about are quite dad-rock / older bands so i'd like something a bit more modern. two of Fleetwood / Depeche Mode / Roses / Elbow etc and then Kanye third would be lovely

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
