2013 Lineup

Having looked at the tour dates of each artist announced, out of the 53 acts...

46 have dates this Summer, raging from June to September.

35 have dates in August.

11 have dates over the R&L weekend.

Perhaps if we'd taken the actual touring plans of acts into account, we'd have been less disappointed on the whole? For instance, Placebo and Soundgarden were never likely, as they had no dates announced, yet people still thought they'd play. Also Yeah Yeah Yeahs seem to only be playing earlier festivals, and lots of people were surprised not to see them on the lineup.

Just thought I'd share these thoughst with y'all.

As far as Yeah Yeah Yeahs go I kept predicting them because last time they did Reading they pretty much just did the early fests and still turned up and they have done Reading on the back of every album. Generally though Reading has a lot more guess work than the early fests because a lot of the August fests seem to announce later (usually after the Reading major announcement save for a few early announcements). The only band that really came out of looking at those fests lineups was System of a Down and bands like Biffy, Deftones etc were added around the same as the Reading announcement. Plus those fests can really throw us of i.e. Billy Talent, Tenacious D etc this year and Placebo last year. Hope that makes any sense.

Makes perfect sense. Like you say Yeah Yeah Yeahs were hard to call as logic suggests they wouldn't hang around or come back after their UK dates and early summer European festivals, but they did exactly that last time so the possibility had to be entertained.

Seems to me it's trying to appeal to too many audiences. There's a significant amount of dance, rap, metal and indie on the line up, it's like it's trying to do too loads of jobs and not doing any of them particularly well. Every genre is either over or under represented and I think they're in danger of alienating their usual audience. It's like trying to be Download and Wireless at the same time while still trying to get people from Latitude, except basically getting all the reject bands from the other 3, with a couple of exceptions. The only festival that manages to appeal to everyone is Glastonbury, because of it's sheer size and reputation

My joint fave band of all time. Take a little while to get into but when you get into them tis totally worth it. The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me is still my fave album. There is also a big argument for You Won't Know being my fave song of all time.

Out of laziness, do you guys reckon brand new and gonna remain 5th, or could get pushed down slightly?

Looking at the lineup, can't help but feel it would be stronger if editors swapped with white lies, then someone like the hives under them, then brand new

In my opinion, 5th is too low for Brand New, they should be higher than Lumineers. Alternatively I'd have liked Brand New to headline FR against Eminem. Hopefully Sum 41 play FR against him instead now. Don't care to see Eminem again and I hate Alt-J more than I hate cancer and terrorism so I'm in need of entertainment for the Sunday night so holding out for a good FR line up.

Whilst the NIN booking is probably one of the highlights of an overall weak announcement, is anybody else a little bit sceptical about the timing. Why have a big worldwide ‘wave goodbye tour’ and then come back barely 4 years later?. What a complete bunch of cock. It’s no fault of Readings (although they could have laughed at the suggestion that they return) more of a reflection of NIN’s.

Oh, sure, that's good too :). Just American Idiot has the strongest nostalgia for me because of when I happened to be born.

They do seem to know what the fans want. Minimal Uno, Dos, Tre, 21st Century Breakdown, then a nice mixture of everything before that. I thought they'd be playing a lot more off the new trilogy tbh.
