Stone Roses not playing = Stone Roses are defo playing?

I'm inclined to believe Emily, for two reasons.

Firstly, Melvin Benn said something about a month ago, which strongly implied that Glastonbury won't have the Stone Roses - which presumably means they've signed an exclusive contract with someone (Melvin says that R/L won't have them either, so it's not that).

And secondly, while Emily said they weren't having Stevie Wonder and then they had him, she insisted to me that at the time she made that tweet they hadn't even approached him (which, as an aside, gets to mean that someone they were hoping to get backed away from doing it [which I think was the Stones]). While I can't be sure whether she was spinning me a yarn or not, my hunch is that what she told me was truthful.

Thats odd, can't think who would be big enough to get Stone Roses on an exclusive, except maybe Bestival? V's out of the question, IOW generally don't bother with exclusive headliners, and can't think who else would get them.

Unless they are doing their own gig at Knebworth/Hyde Park of course.

yup, there's not too many options, are there?

I reckon the realistic ones are these:-

IoW - but as you say, tends not to have exclusives. Then again, after this year, maybe he feels he needs them next year?

Bestival - RdB is about the right age for them to have been a major like of his, so perhaps he's gone all-out to get them?

Wireless/Hyde Park - they've not done an London outdoor show as yet.

Soniphere - perhaps it's trying to reposition itself musically.

HRC don't usually tie artists into exclusives though, in fact if anything they subsidise larger artists coming to the UK at a timeslot convenient for playing glastonbury as well (thinking Springsteen, Stevie, probably others in the past)

Just spoke to my friend who stayed in the same hotel as the Roses last month in Belfast and he is adamant that the Roses are playing based on a conversation he had with Reni.

Things could have changed since that gig last month or it could be a case that Eavis is playing tricks regarding who is playing.

Much as I love Pulp, having seen them at the Park last time and then later that summer at an indoors gig, I don't really feel the need to see them again. Not sure they could top the atmosphere at those gigs. Dunno, really.

Would really love Pulp to play again as they are one of my favourite bands. I seen them on the Park Stage last year and seen them at Isle Of Wight and T In The Park as well, such a great band. Its a weird one, they can't go on forever touring without writing new material as people will eventually lose interest, but they don't seem likely to write any new material. Im going to see them at Sheffield in December and I was half thinking this was gonna be the big end to this phase of Pulp but then theyve went and booked more gigs. It seemed an obvious way to go out in their hometown. Thing is, if they are to end it again in the near future I cant see them doing it with a random gig somewhere in europe, I think they'd want to do it in England at a special gig and if its not gonna be Sheffield then a big slot at Glastonbury would be another obvious one. Then again, they might just go on a break then asses everything in a couple of years. I don't want them to end i'd love some new music but I can't see it.

Emily also said in a spotify interview a few months ago that someone big who they'd been after for years had contacted them about playing, and they had to explain that if they played they wouldnt be getting paid a huge sum. Ive always wondered who she was on about, if the rumours about them been greedy bastards are true then hopefully it was fleetwood mac who contacted them about playing, one can hope.

I cant see Glasto booking Pearl Jam after them playing IOW this year, I think with the vodaphone mix up they are already booked for another festival as someone at Vodaphone must have the info but got the festivals mixed up. Id say they are at Leeds/Reading.

Im still going for....

Arcade Fire

Rolling Stones

Lady Gaga

I'd like to see The Rolling Stones, purely for an historic moment, they have a great track listing. After all there are not many if any of the great iconic bands still around who havn't already performed are there?

Would just love to see Radiohead do a set like the Leeds set. I want to see them do a career defining last Glastonbury gig rangeing from Pabllo honey to present.

I don't want to be tied to the Pyramid this time around as i want to spend a night down in the corner of nightly delights rather than stumble there after 12am.

Would love to see Meloday Gardot do some intimate gig somewhere hidden away, but unlikely to happen.

Would love to see Bowie, which will not happen.

Kelly Osbourne made a good point about Gaga on tv last week that she thinks she's pregnant due to the fact that the outfits she's wearing lately appear to be all about covering up and also she has stopped using peroxide on her hair.

Also seen a pic of her yesterday in an enflatably outfit so maybe.........
