Emily also said in a spotify interview a few months ago that someone big who they'd been after for years had contacted them about playing, and they had to explain that if they played they wouldnt be getting paid a huge sum. Ive always wondered who she was on about, if the rumours about them been greedy bastards are true then hopefully it was fleetwood mac who contacted them about playing, one can hope.

For Pulp to sub Radiohead, Radiohead would have to play all the classics mixed in with new stuff or they would have a hard time living up to a set after Pulp played. Imagine going from "Common People" to any song from "The King of Limbs". It would be very very hard to win the crowd over. It would be like the Gorillaz set a few years back there was little crowd interaction from what i saw on TV until they played Clint Eastwood at the end and Feel Good Inc.

It's an odd one, because I'd say Pulp would put on a better all-round show at Glastonbury now than they did in '95. Granted, Common People with the crowd going crazy was just a perfect moment, but Different Class wasn't even out and songs like Disco 2000, Sorted and Mis-Shapes made their debut that night. The crowd obviously didn't know them where as now they'd be highlights of a set. I'd say Jarvis is a better frontman now than he was then as well. So I do think it'd take something special to keep the crowd going, though Radiohead COULD fit that role definitely.

If they came out and did a TKOL set (which I would expect) then I doubt a generic festival crowd would be that interested for the most part. I am a Radiohead fan myself, but songs like Bloom and Lotus Flower just aren't 'jump up and down' electronic songs. However if they did a 'Greatest Hits' set (unlikely) then I think it could be brilliant. It would totally depend on how King of Limbs heavy they made the set for me, because they do tend to pick songs for the live set which fit the style of the album.

That being said, a combination of Pulp - Radiohead would be amazing whatever happened!

Dont forget Radiohead were voted as having put on the best headline glasto set EVER in '97. pulp were a fairly distant sixth. TKOL isn't to everyone's taste but its only 8 songs and so would only likely account for about a quarter of the whole set which Im sure they'd pack with plenty of hits at Glasto.

I reckon IOW and a london outdoor show, could be HRC but I think it'll be own show for more money. I believed MB when he said that although I do think The Roses will pop up on the parl stage like radiohead and pulp did on secret sets.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rourke wasn't involved, considering there's obviously not a lot of love lost between SPM and him, but Joyce as well? And Morrissey giving up his solo stuff?

There's been rumours of Moz retiring, but I can't see a Smiths reunion happening. Despite the apparent hate for Joyce (and maybe Rouke too?) post-Smiths I think both Morrissey and Marr would still appreciate that they were parts of the band, and it wouldn't be the Smiths without them. Even then would Morrissey really want a reunion?

If they come back in any form I think it'd be 'Morrissey & Marr' plus a band doing the three shows and Glastonbury. Maybe one or two Smiths covers but an album of new material would come out of it too if it were to happen.

After some of my posts in the V forum earlier in the year, what I'm about to say now needs a disclaimer: I live in Manchester, love Stone Roses (and Oasis etc) and don't hate manchester or its residents....

However, IF it was to come out that this was a typical Eavis dis-information, I think it may have been deliberate and calculated by Emily to contradict Michael's previous statements just before ticket day.

The best part of Glasto is that (apart from the relatively small resale in April/May) the tickets are sold on the basis of it being Glastonbury, not who headlines or plays.

If all of us believed Stone Roses to be "nailed on", then it is a sure thing that a lot of their fans did to, and lets be honest (please nobody take offence to this), the "typical" people who go to a Roses gig you do not want going to Glastonbury just because their heroes are playing. Those sort of bands bring an edgy atmosphere which I personally don't really notice at the gigs. heaton park was relatively peaceful but god knows what it was like afterwards as I've seen the aftermath of Oasis gigs in the past and its horrible.

Again, big generalisation but its something to think about...

With all the other info out there I'm inclined to believe they aren't playing anyway, but the above would make a lot of sense if they were!

except of course there is no such thing as "typical Eavis dis-information". It's not something they do.

My take is that Emily would have put out about The Stone Roses for the opposite that you speculate, so that anyone who might be coming to just see The Stone Roses doesn't bother, because they'll be left disappointed.

From all the info going around - which is more than just Emily - it seems pretty clear that they won't be at Glasto next year.

I cant see Glasto booking Pearl Jam after them playing IOW this year, I think with the vodaphone mix up they are already booked for another festival as someone at Vodaphone must have the info but got the festivals mixed up. Id say they are at Leeds/Reading.
