You're right, there are others to be held responsible for The 1975's truly awful music.

Matty Healy is the greatest frontman of our generation. The man is a character with the carisma to match ! Just what Glastonbury needs at the moment. Glastonbury hasn't had a good headliner in years in my opinion

Anyone think it’s weird 1975 seem most likely but have no noise on a new album and no other tour dates?

Not especially.  Stands to reason that they probably consider themselves lucky to have got the call up in the first place and so have no issue treating it like a one off special occasion.

yeah I'd actually think a hits set without new stuff would work better for the more casual fan. Its only fans of the band who would normally see them anyway that might think its not fresh enough.

None of the rumoured headliners massively appeal to me this year. Olivia is the standout, but not exactly a must-see. It feels like this is one of the years the festival couldn’t get who they really wanted so settled with second best.

Still holding out for Gaga.

I reckon its a fair bet that Olivia and Neil were both first choices.  The 1975 will have been about 3rd or 4th.

To the 1975 haters in here who obviously have no taste in great music. Listen up. Matty Healy and his band are going to blow away this festival in front of 120k gob smacked punters. They are without question the best live act this country has produced in the last 25 years. Miss their gig you will be missing out history in the making. There is nobody else to choose from, AC/DC past it, GNR past it, Arctic Monkeys national embarrassment god dam awful live. Unless Freddie Mercury rises from the grave this is the best band you will ever likely to see live.

Every single one of your posts on this forum since 2022 has been about the 1975. That's almost 3 years of willing this to happen. So you're clearly a massive fan.

Are you attending Glasto this year?

If you are, despite my own indifference, I almost want them to be headlining just for you. There's a few artists that I'd be as passionate about, but won't mention, because the vast majority would tear them to shreds. So I know how special it would be for you, I'm sure we all do if we really think about it. I hope it's everything you want it to be. 👍

Yep that sounds right.

I think it's safe to say that Olivia was first choice without doubt, given that we had a pretty strong expectation (and some whispers) that she was likely more than a full year out..

Neil Young was booked because the only audience member who really matters is known to be a huge fan, and so likely would have been in the thought process from early on. Less certain than Olivia, but there's no reason to think he was a late addition.

I’d be on the fence for The 1975 and O-Rod. Might go along but would depend who is on elsewhere. Definitely out for Neil Young. So I’m more interested in seeing who’s headlining the other stages and hoping that lands in my favour with dates so not all the ones I want to see on the same night (though appreciate on this thread it’s all about the Pyramid headliners!!). Maybe my first year with no Pyramid headliners but still just as excited.

Pulp (Other), Basement Jaxx (WH) and Franz Ferdinand (Woodsies) would be 👌

Don’t understand why anyone would tear them apart whoever they are.  Im a massive 75 fan, nothing wrong with it, clearly it’s cool to hate them for some reason.  Speaking of artists who I’d love to headline, there’s one band in particular who are newly headlining another festival im actually attending this year, & depending on how they are received I can totally see them headlining Glastonbury in the future.  And let me tell you the backlash will be incredible, but they would be amazing.

But it’s all subjective isn’t it.  We like who we like.

We were told before that The 1975 were booked to headline the 2021 festival with Dua Lipa and when it was cancelled both were invited back, so I don't think this is completely random.

Personally it's the most excited I've been for a headliner since The Stones did it.

If Neil was booked just for Michael (and I doubt that is the reason), then bring it on.

Just for? Of course not. Ultimately they wouldn't book an act if they weren't suitable (unless they ran out of other options - which clearly isn't the case here).

But I think for sure Michael will have been a major consideration. And that's absolutely fair enough.

Yep we all have connections with different artists for different reasons.

I like Coldplay quite a lot (although they aren't one of the artists I refenced) and for years they've been torn apart on here... Didn't make that field any easier to navigate last year did it? 🙈🤣 I'm sure it will be exactly the same for 75.

Despite my own indifference, I haven't actually ever seen them live, so they'd still be a maybe for me, barring any clashes. They might blow me away live, they certainly wouldn't be the first band I've seen that have earned a new follower on their live performance alone. The Script are one example, they just kind of existed to me, similar to 1975 now, until I saw them live for the first time, now I have seen them loads of times, and have enjoyed it every time. 🙂

Yes - but as a minimum it does seem that Fred Again was the initial play for this year.

    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
