We seem to be seeing this a lot more where I think acts are just falling out of love with the idea of touring everywhere all the time and are doing shorter legs or taking more breaks. If Fred's had a chance of heart and decided he needs 2025 off after some intense scheduling in recent years, then that's fair enough.

I saw Travis support The Killers in July and was kinda surprised by them tbf. I hadn't expected much because of reputation and being meh on a song or two I'd heard but their frontman was charming and had more crowd interaction than some headliners I've seen, and the songs translated very well live. Think they won quite a lot of fans from that run.

 

It is still kinda funny in retrospect that in 2001, they headlined Reading with Green Day as the sub-headliner.

Travis could do with a few meatier support slots. Were they not potentially too similar for vintage, I could have seen them on the Stereophonics stadium run next year.

 

Stereophonics, personally, have enough material to smash a ninety-minute slot atop the Pyramid with very little problem, and their continued live sales certainly suggest they are still sizable enough to do it. But I also fully concur that they won't have been booked to return to headline for a reason - they've certainly been around when acts have been needed in a pinch - and so their time has clearly gone.

I always liked Travis first album - Good Feeling,  It did not make much of an impact but I think its potentially there best work (IMO) though in terms of putting them on a big stage its not the well know content. 

 

I think basically all Travis - Well known songs came of the 2nd and 3rd albums -  Maybe one or 2 of the 4th. 

 

I would not bother getting tickets for them - but I recon Id catch them at Glastonbury.

I really enjoyed Travis's Pyramid Saturday night headline set at Glastonbury 2000. Very much like their new album. If they are free, I would love to see them return to the festival next year.

I think at this rate the best 3 they could get is Sam Fender - Olivia Rodrigo - Stevie Wonder. Massive UK artist on the rise and perfect timing, massive current popular US artist and an icon. The 1975 seems a bit stale and a bit late, would prefer if they waited until the next album.

Obviously not a s headliners but I seriously think Travis' output has remained very high quality when compared to other bands of a similar ilk. 

 

If they are there this year  (which i expect them to be) - i will 100% be watching.

Among the names going, think they're not a bad shout to meet my preferred criteria. You'd preferably have one on the way up, one established and one sailing into retirement.

 

By that basis, it would be Olivia Rodrigo or Sam Fender or The 1975 on the Friday, somebody else on the Saturday and Stevie Wonder on the Sunday.

 

If there had been any depth to the Rihanna chat, then someone of her wattage. Lady Gaga another very excellent shout, and Green Day would have worked for me too.

Fair enough, but at the same time, Fender's sound has always been geared towards America. And it can be a fickle world when it comes to when and where - The 1975 hit the top of the Billboard 200 when they stuck out their second album, for example.

 

Fender's health issues and the pandemic meaning he hasn't been able to tour has been a detriment, but don't think it is necessarily his sound that is the barrier - though the American pop chart landscape is also vastly different to a decade ago.

Not too many, The Chemical Brothers (Pyramid 2000), Primal Scream (1998), I expect there’s some from the early years, such as Van Morrison.

There's a lot of reasons why he hasn't - health definitely another one.

Would be nice to see if he could. Some of the social accounts you typically associate with pushing chart radio hits, country and K-pop have been surprisingly active behind People Watching, so it will be fascinating.

 

Fender, of course, did once nearly star in an Ariana Grande music video, or so the legend goes.

Think Kelly played with his side project Far From Saints either 2022 or 2023, so it’s not a problem his side I would imagine. 
 

Unless it’s someone else in the band that’s causing an issue. Maybe it is just a case that they think it’s headline only for them.

Not going to sugar coat it I personally think that looks like a piss poor 'we are struggling and cant do any better' headline 3. 

I love Sam Fender but headlining the Pyramid? Get a grip. There are many acts that should be getting that slot before him...  f**king hell even Becky Hill is bigger than him. 

Olivia Rodrigo is not my thing but she is a massive world wide star. She is the only one that seems like a legit choice. 

1975 are a bit meh

I do wonder it if was a The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo & Sam Fender trio after last year they'd try and bolster it with someone like Muse. Although not as good as they used to be with material etc. surely it'll long stronger than the SZA booking to have The 1975, Fred Again or Sam Fender, Olivia Rodrigo & Muse than the current 3 touted? Unless of course there is a Stevie Wonder, Rihanna or Lady Gaga type booked.

I think Travis played Avalon a few years ago, it was a self powered gig or something I recall? , I reckon thats one the of biggest drop offs from headliner status.

Probably a few if you dig deep - Skunk Anansie, Elvis Costello etc. The quickest fall from grace was probably the Manics; headlined in 99, subbed Moby in 2003
