can't they do two tickets, one from weds, and another a bit cheaper from thurs onwards? and they keep some fields (further out) free for those arriving on thurs/fri? or is that stupid and unworkable. Just that not everyone wants or can go for the full 5 days, but if you go any later then weds you're going to struggle to find anywhere to camp. Would also mean maybe fewer crowd issues on the thursday?

I guess they sort of do this with the Thursday coach tickets (albeit without the camping reservation)

Yeah always wondered why they haven’t tried this. Worked well with the ‘Early Bird’ entry when I used to go Leeds Festival 15 years ago!

Probably the only viable way to get a bit more income without raising ticket prices another £50.

not sure it would help with camping much, you’d just send a couple of keen beans on the Wednesday with 5 tents

As someone who can usually only attend from the Thursday, it could be a good idea to reserve a field for Thursday arrivals, which only opens at, say, 6am on the Thursday.

This would cause less stress to us late arrivals but also encourage some people to come a day later. I am sure there are a few that rush down late on the Wednesday just because of the stress of finding a spot on the Thursday.

Re: the coke... I thought it was really bad last year.

On Thursday morning at about 5am, some lad was absolutely off his tits on f**k knows what, behaving like he'd just come out of The Last of Us. He was slapping our tent, which woke me up. I got up to try and get him to go to bed, but he was so mangled that he couldn't communicate. He then fully punched my tent, and hit my girlfriend's head. I don't know what happened, but my primal defense strength kicked in. I somehow picked said gentleman up and threw him.

Some stewards happened to walk by, as the guy got up and ran at me like a feral beast. I called over to them as I tripped him up and held him to the ground. They took him to medical services, I went back to sleep.

When I woke up, I had these two massive Geordie lads asking me if I knew what happened to their mate... Luckily, they were quite chill about it, they said he refused to go to bed and kept drinking. When we got back to the tent on Thursday evening, the lad was passed out on a chair. His mates thanked me for getting him to a steward. They said he'd gone too far, and started throwing up when he got there. If I hadn't called them, he could have done it and choked outside the tent, so I essentially saved his life.

I didn't see the guy awake at any time during the festival, but the people I camped with, said that on Sunday afternoon he came round to apologise, packed all his stuff and went home. Hope the guy learned a lesson and hasn't gone that hard since.

It was a very odd encounter. Sometimes I'll just say to my girlfriend "Remember when I threw a man?" because, everything else aside, that sentence is amusing.

Is the real ale tent no longer a thing ?

That’s there yeah but this year I found it too hot to want to drink ale rather than craft beer and I won’t pay £6.50 for watered down Brooklyn pilsner if I can help it 🤣

Seems to be a bit of an elephant in the room on efests this but there are clearly 20k or so people on site each year who have gotten in without a ticket. I’m obviously not talking about workers or anything here but people who have been snuck in or got in by other means.

it’s one of the main causes of the overcrowding issues the fest are experiencing, which is causes issues throughout the site listed previously (lack of camping space, long queues, lack of shaded areas) needs sorting ASAP or is going to lead to a disaster at the next muddy festival.

I am no grass and got no issues with people who jib it Saw a couple runners at gate D on weds and wanted them to make it. Ultimately it’s on the festival to sort it out and I do think the overcrowding is diluting the festival experience we all love and all paid a lot of money for

Everyone sat down in gold circle just before a big set. Security should do more to make people stand up

soith east corner crazy busy until even the super late hours

car henge seemed very pointless and nobody spent more than 5 minutes there

it was hot

Sound bleed between The Park stage and Stonebridge. Lack of shade. Crowd flows/pinch points seemed worse - maybe due to more people? £3 for a can of coke at Strummerville, surrounded by Joe Strummer quotes about greed.

The loss of Pylon was not fun. Part of me is worried its because in 2-3 years time they want to make it fancy camping. Lets see...

Everything else was fabulous!

Things are clearly moving that way.  It seems like every year since 2000 I've seen more and more public camping space eroded and a greater focus on 'luxury options'.  This is also skewing the demographic.  In fairness, old farts like me who are still going year in year out are also skewing the demographic.

People standing in ques for the toilets, while 2-4 of the cubicles are empty🙃

People still bringing kids and their war chariots into Shangri-la, place is already massively crowded, don't need to battle with familys attempting to look like there not hating making the mistake of bringing their kids to Glasto, and causing crushes with there mini 4x4 trolleys, onoy place there where crushes for me this year. Shangri-las finished imo just not enjoyable.

Thought this year was vastly improved over 2022, which was dangerously overcrowded at numerous times each day. Far better crowd control/management and possibly less attendees (last year I knew 12 people who bunked in pretty easily with security, this year none)

Bang on. So many acts on the Cabaret were visibly put off by stuff pumping into the tent from outside. Similarly, I bailed on Max Richter because – unless you were down the front – the Stonebridge Bar was ruining the experience.

Yeah, programming Max Richter up against Morningside was daft - if they want to have something like that on the Park in the morning (which was a really nice change of pace!) then they need to be joined up enough to have something spoken word in the Stonebridge for that hour or so.

Much better on the most vital things in 2023 compared with 2022:

still busy all around site, but not crazy or unmanageable

food ques much shorter

there wasnt anywhere near as many of those big chunky wood chippings.

im struggling to think of anything to have a moan about that is actually under the control of the festival and isnt just other punters being idiots (litter, urinating not in a toilet) or the weather being unrelentingly warm.

there was a craft beer on keg in avalon inn for the first time - bristol beer factory independence. Would be nice to see it on all bars please!

yes car henge was pointless and williams green was a loss but that was pre fest. In terms of other organisation i think they’ve smashed it.

Also, chairs and blankets and flags are annoying (albeit 5% of flags are quite funny) but the fest have made clear theyre not going to do anything about them as if they were going to, they would have by now.

blankets only annoying for elton, hate the pyramid in general for this reason. Only saw sophie ellis and rick on the stage all festival, as they were early doors flags and blankets no issue

some of the best crowds were up at the park, everybody vibing for charlotte adigery and viagra boys!
