The Weather Thread 2023

So, we move on to the 18Z. This is basically what you will get in Gav's video update tonight. Will it be a good one?

THROUGH TO GATES OPEN

In the last run we had an absolute deluge of rain on the Monday, in this run there is still some heavy rain in the early hours that day but it's much reduced, with a fully drying day on Monday itself.

That said, there is also heavy rain on Tuesday morning, with very light showers the rest of the day.

IMPORTANT: There is far less rain in this run than in the previous one, and the high temperatures of 21 and 20 during the day are crucial for drying. This is an improved pre-festival run to the 06Z

It's certainly not idea for arrival on site ... but by the time the gates open it's completely dry.

Looking through Wednesday itself, it stays dry save for the chance of very light showers in the evening. High temperatures of 20.

THURSDAY

Not the kind of turn we wanted with rain, but not heavy, throughout the day. Highs of 19.

FRIDAY

Much better as high pressure starts to build in. Complete dry and highs of 23.

SATURDAY

The high certainly isn't as dominant in this run as in the previous, but it remains a dry day with highs of 20.

SUNDAY

Dry again, but the finger fails to materialise. Highs of 22.

SUMMARY

The added rain on the Thursday is a downgrade, and the reduced confidence in the high building up adds to the prospect of a KNIFE EDGE.

But the trend does not seem set for warmer temperatures, some rain in the first half of next week before it clears.

Ideally, we want that Thursday rain to do one - then we're pretty much perfect.

Again, the rain pre-festival is improved in this run with lengthy drying time including during the day.

No improvement for Monday from the 12z GFS.  It still wants to bring the thundery low up from France which has the potential to dump a lot of rain on the site.   The exact position of the low at this point is irrelevant as we’re too far off, but it’s definitely still there….

There is far less rain in the 12Z before gates open.

Yep but that’s only because it sends Mondays thundery low slightly further west in this run. It’s basically guessing at this range. It will move that low all over the place between now and Monday…. more runs needed….

But you said no improvement on Monday, and this run is definitely an improvement. There is no doubt.

Buy a pair of half decent walking boots and they'll do you come rain or shine! Would recommend wearing them round the house/ out for a walk before the festival though
