Hope they get the £1000 fine. I’m fed up of people thinking rules don’t apply to them.

I agree with you however the "rules" are open to interpretation. I think if you challenged any of these fines that are being dished out in court you'd win.

Unfortunately its just another case of a large proportion of our electorate for whatever reason being dickheads. It doesn't help when our supposed leaders are doing what the fuck they want. I think we were in a good place before cummings, now people aren't bothered hence the scare tactics from the government.

They're not helping themselves with this local lock down stuff either, being a resident of Manchester we're supposed to be in lockdown as far as I can see nobody is doing any different.

For the people who are paying attention i think they're questioning why things like casinos and cinemas are opening places while were being told we cant go to see friends when the difference in cases and deaths is very similar..

its heard immunity all the way now which will be looked on in a very grim way in a few years when we count the cost of elderly and vulnerable its killed off

Its a complete mess.

Are we thinking yesterday’s +1400 was driven by the sandwich factory outbreak and somewhere between 1000-1100 is the true underlying daily figure at present?

I think if they can maintain those levels and keep the R number around 1 (not strictly below 1), given that the IFR is apparently dropping due to better treatment, I think they’ll probably avoid a full blown second wave (but the caveat is that there will be no “elimination”, and the current levels will probably stay as they are until the vaccine comes along.

Schools are a big challenge though, and I think they will probably end up extending the current NW restrictions to the rest of the country to get schools open. So they’ll keep pubs open for the economy, but visiting family and friends could be off limits :(

My hope is that the virus is mutating into something much less deadly though. If that’s the case then the herd immunity strategy could be back on the table.

Never been off the table, I just think the meaning has changed with the t-cell stuff.

It's all populism anyway-when people start to get properly bored in winter, as long as hospital numbers dont go up too much, they'll lift all restrictions. Currently the public mood is to preserve all lives but that will change over the coming months

need to look at weekly averages rather than what is happening daily...and at moment looks fairly constant. Just have to see what happens when schools and colleges go back...and then when starts getting colder.

7 day average is rising for cases. It’s not the time for complacency.

Unfortunately there’s a similar theme across the whole of Europe at the moment. I think pretty much every major european country is seeing rising cases rather than decreases.

I largely believe it’s due to complacency and lots of people flouting social distancing guidelines. With schools reopening in 2 weeks, now isn’t the time to allow it to fall apart. Or when the schools do open we are going to see exponential rises.

At the moment the rise is relatively linear, which isn’t the worst thing, but that could change at any point!

I’m on a non-league football team’s forum full of racist Tories and Farage fanboys and they are all very much adamant the virus is nothing to worry about as it’s ‘the most pathetic pandemic of all time’ and its run its course.

They claim they look at ‘raw figures‘ without any emotion so they know best. My worry is that this gives an insight into the thinkings of the majority of this country...

Pretty much sums up the thoughts of most of my colleagues ... apart from the vulnerable ones ...

Don't really know what thread to put this in.. but we went to the seaside today and inside the amusements it was like face masks weren't a thing anymore,  there were signs all over saying to wear them but nobody took any notice!

We did.. but other than maybe one or two others nobody else had them on

I've definitely noticed a drop off since the warmer weather. Shops still generally pretty good, other places less so

You’ve put it in the right thread!

It’s like this everywhere thats not a physical shop, supermarket or public transport. My aunt was in the train station waiting room and she was the only one with a mask on even though it’s an enclosed space.

I don’t think the public got the message when masks were mandated in all enclosed spaces, or people just weren’t paying attention, or it wasn’t clearly advertised, or people simply just don’t care.

I think a massive part of the issue was they were initially just mandated in shops and there was a big commotion, so now everyone knows to wear them in shops. But when it was extended to all enclosed spaces it wasn’t very clear, so I think there’s a lot of confusion for people where to actually wear them so they just don’t bother... I would have personally complained to the staff about it if I was there but that’s just me.

Even BBC news has it wrong and says just mandatory in cinemas, museums and places of worship, doesn’t mention any of the other places like arcades, libraries etc (and they even have it wrong saying they are optional in beauty salons- which is false info!)

Unfortunately people not sticking to these rules will cause an uptick in infections. I wish we had initially mandated them in all enclosed spaces rather than it being an after thought, I reckon then compliance in enclosed spaces like arcades/amusements etc would be so much better as there would have been a much clearer message.

Theres also an issue in the fact police just aren’t stepping up to the job and enforcing it and handing out fines, should be on the spot fines for non-compliance but it’s not happening so people won’t give a damn.

In others news, France +3310 daily cases. Ouch 😷😵

Watching the snooker on tv, they are trialing audiences at indoor sporting events after the ban was lifted, people in the front three rows not wearing masks, some being worn further back. Surely if they are trialing this as an example of how they can manage indoor audiences then security should be enforcing masks.

I thought masks were mandatory for indoor audiences!?!?

This is exactly why I’ve been staying in, because people don’t bloody stick to the rules, and then I don’t feel safe!

not specifically. You can be 2 feet apart without masks

I’ve checked the official guidance and it just says cinemas and theatres, but I would have thought indoor sporting events come under “indoor entertainment venues”?.

This is the official guidance from the gov website:

In England, you must wear a face covering in the following indoor settings (a list of examples for each is included in the brackets):

  • public transport (aeroplanes, trains, trams and buses)
  • transport hubs (airports, rail and tram stations and terminals, maritime ports and terminals, bus and coach stations and terminals)
  • shops and supermarkets (places which offer goods or services for retail sale or hire)
  • shopping centres (malls and indoor markets)
  • auction houses
  • premises providing professional, legal or financial services (post offices, banks, building societies, high-street solicitors and accountants, credit unions, short-term loan providers, savings clubs and money service businesses)
  • premises providing personal care and beauty treatments (hair salons, barbers, nail salons, massage centres, tattoo and piercing parlours)
  • premises providing veterinary services
  • visitor attractions and entertainment venues (museums, galleries, cinemas, theatres, concert halls, cultural and heritage sites, aquariums, indoor zoos and visitor farms, bingo halls, amusement arcades, adventure activity centres, funfairs, theme parks, casinos, skating rinks, bowling alleys, indoor play areas including soft-play areas)
  • libraries and public reading rooms
  • places of worship
  • funeral service providers (funeral homes, crematoria and burial ground chapels)
  • community centres, youth centres and social clubs
  • exhibition halls and conference centres
  • public areas in hotels and hostels
  • storage and distribution facilities

You just feel that the ban was lifted yesterday and it is being televised live, that from a PR And public perception viewpoint someone would have decided to enforce mask wearing especially in the seats covered by the TV cameras.

Oh I agree, but if they are 2 feet apart and within the rules...

Do any of you guys who have headed to the cinema have any thoughts on mask usage while the film is actually on? My local said you can take them off while sat down in your seat (they’re pretty hot on foyers and when exiting)... I think I’d be comfortable while the film is running but not during trailers etc.
