I would be absolutely stunned if face coverings are a legal requirement on public transport or in shops in summer 2022.

Will some people choose to wear them? Sure.

This. Not everything has to be a legal requirement for people to adopt certain behaviours if they see fit. If you think you’d benefit from wearing a mask then by all means do. But don’t enforce it on everybody.

You know one thing I'd love to see is a new attitude to working when ill - from the employers side (more trust and pay) and from the employee's side too. Pay still the most important bit, but a bit of respect for your colleagues and those who you come across on public transport/shops etc. And for many in offices its shown home working can work, so if you're ill it should be a 2 way street - employer doesn't want you in and you shouldn't force the issue by going in there.

Colds would just circulate in my old workplace constantly, and it was so annoying knowing you'd get ill regularly just for going into work, having weekends where you can't do stuff, missing stuff you'd planned outside of work etc

Masks wouldn't be as useful in normal times if these measures came into place

Has anything changed ? Schools back ?

Schools only back yesterday (and only P1-P3 at that) so too early for it to be that.

I think it is probably down to a change in the public's attitude. I know a few people in my village who have tested positive in the last week and both are people I know who have been doing a lot of socialising. Also noticed a 30th birthday party taking place on Saturday night with 6 cars outside a house.

Think people are starting to relax a little too quickly.

Agree with this 100%. More of a culture of allowing people to work from home if possible (if only a small cold and not debilitating) and better sick pay policies for those that can't. I'd be happy to wear masks on the Tube to avoid catching stuff, but happier if people just didn't bring it on there in the first place.

People are under estimating the issue.

For example - If you have a lower set kid who was already disinterested and you was trying to keep them engaged - you better believe making them wear a mask all day only adds to the problem.

She just said it was grim. Same class room all day, 10 min toilet break, 30mins for lunch where sit in canteen but can't face each other. Just a bit shit. Hope it improves next term, would be nice for her to have a bit of normal school as it's her last year, but probably won't get back to normal.

There are serious issues from all this.  There is a floated opinion that children are robust and will adjust - its not true for many.  The brutal reality is far more stark.  Self harm, mental health issue and so on.  Any modern secondary school as a whole has a mixture of issues and challenges and its taking a serious toll on those with these issues.

I find it quite frustrating but there is little oxygen being given to it or being allowed to be given to it 😞   I have heard people saying my kid is doing okay but I even worry about that.  We know kids who won't tell their parents how they feel as well.  Luckily my wife obviously has a duty of care and takes action but what about the ones who won't even open up to teachers.  Ah man - Im not an emotional person but I think this is a huge issue and it makes me feel a bit sick.

100%, the psychological harm being inflicted on kids at the moment is criminal.

yeah, there are two reasons they need to be back in school, education, and for socilaising...and they're only getting one of those at moment because it's just like a factory farm. Anyway, I see the reasons...the pandemic...and hopefully things are better next term and they can stop with the masks and maybe have more after school clubs and sports back on.

Yep, it really is a terrible time for them. And something that those without kids won’t really understand, nor would you expect them to. Which is why we need to get back to ‘normal’ as soon as possible, when the deaths and hospital admissions are low. Prolonging any of this unnecessarily is going to end up being very damaging.

My friend couldn't believe the difference when he moved to Germany a few years ago. At serious risk of all his colleagues turning against him when he went in one day with a cold. They weren't shy in telling him that he wasn't that important, they could cope without his presence for a few days and to sod off home until he was better

Do you reckon it will be changed in a few weeks once the hospitalisation risk people have been vaccinated? I still think the right thing would've been send them back as normal and actually tighten the rules in the community until everyone under a certain age (40?) has their first vaccine. Just don't have anything else open til May

If it wasn't for local elections I think they'd have done this

Really ? That’s quite a sweeping statement !!

Not really, if you don’t have children then you wouldn’t have the interaction like Stevie has had with his daughter, who gave a first hand account. It sounds awful. If people are just judging it from what they read or see on TV, then it could paint a different picture than the reality.

No you wouldn’t have that personal interaction but you don’t need to have kids to understand that they are going through massive changes and upheavals to their lives ... which may well impact many for years to come ...for others it might cause shorter term issues ... every child will handle this differently and that also becomes a problem ... there might be some without kids unable to see this ...
