Awful - that sort of thing angers me so much. Pharmaceutical profits over lives

Is this as straightforwards as it seems though? I can understand that Pfizer don't want other people to make their vaccine as they want the money off it. But the Oxford/AZ jab is different, because it's not being sold at a profit. If we dropped the patent restrictions, that would then *allow* other pharmaceutical companies to sell it at a profit.

From what I remember in an article a few months ago, The original intent of the scientists behind the Oxford jab was to make it patent free, but the gvt hooked them up with AZ as they needed them to mass produce it etc, and one of the requirements of that deal was to drop the patent waiving idea but do it at cost price instead (while the pandemic is ongoing, maybe they're allowed to start charging more for future holiday vaccinations etc).

I could understand the hesitation to waive patents if they were worried about quality control, maybe even a worry about a race for ingredients etc, but sadly I think it is mainly about profits long term, though I could be wrong.

By my count, that puts us within spitting distance of 50% of the Adult population having first doses - maybe even over it if the NI number is higher than expected.

Must be close to our last over 100 deaths day, you’d hope.

Also, with 50% approx vaccinated and a further number previously infected, feels like you need to whisper it but we must be approaching a bit of the old...herd immunity.

Yeah they said yesterday that the roadmap will stay in place as whilst we haven’t yet seen (if we even will) any uptick after schools have gone back it’s just one stage. So they still need to keep an eye on things as we open up, as we wouldn’t want to open up too quickly and risk going back a step.

    • Steven Wilson Jr touring would be a good fit.   Brian Fallon (Gaslight Anthem) as he’s touring too next year.   Royston Club. Kingfshr. Bleachers. Spacey Jane. Gang Of Youths. Overpass
    • 90,000 on a single for day or over the weekend?   if it was for the whole weekend that’s disastrous   Given camping didn’t sell out unless they in effect transferred a lot of camping captivity to Chappell Roan day tickets 90,000 is absolute capacity there I think, so it would be hard to believe   i think it’s from the year before but the TPD tv footage when the killers are headlining makes it look like it’s at best half full
    • A part of me thinks weirdly they might hold off on Chaka/Robbie until they have a year where nobody else who fits the bill is available. This slot takes a very specific set of criteria, and I can't imagine they're flushed with options who are on tour and would take the smaller payday every year. Both Chaka and Robbie have expressed interest in doing it, so they're bankers for a year where fewer options are available. Which may well be 2027.
    • Chaka and Robbie got to have decent chances due to previous reports
