This is my areas latest, tier 2 worthy apparently. The first one is for my direct area and the 2nd is for the town as a whole.

I can see a lot of places demanding to be moved down a tier come the 16th, whether theyll be allowed to or not is an entirely different matter

I can see the reason for the blanket restrictions in areas. There’s a few of my friends talking about heading to York because their restrictions are lower. I’m not desperate enough to go 30 miles for a pint with a pie. 
 

If restrictions were localised then you would see more movement of people going 5-10 miles to a different town just to get a drink.

It's just occurred to me that it could depend as much on the effectiveness of the new Tier 2 as the case/hospitalisation drops in tier 3. If Tier 2 is now sufficient to keep R under 0, then there's a much better chance that areas such as Manchester will be allowed to drop down.

Greater Manchester seeing good drops in cases which is great to see, hopefully we'll hear more about how the hospitals are doing this week though local reporting

My area is 175 per 100k and falling but still Tier 3

Change the postcode to my old address 3 miles away and it shoots up to 400 per 100k. 
 

That small difference is why all of West Yorkshire is Tier 3

It’s crazy that 3 miles makes the difference but I agree with your earlier point that generalisation or larger areas is to stop commute drinking/socialising etc

Trafford will be below 100 by the time we come out of lockdown at this rate.

I know it's looking so hopeful... I mean look how far Oldham and Rochdale have gone down too!!

With few weeks of Tier 3 as well let's hope it keeps it down enough to not let Christmas movement cause too much damage... I'd be surprised if most folk round NW are not staying cautious tbh (I know we will be)

One interesting point below was not getting help when applying for it, given students caused our numbers to go through the roof I'm surprised to hear this tbh:
