Ron Howard’s documentary on their touring years, The Beatles: Eight Days A Week is on C4 on Christmas Day.

The Beatles own Anthology DVD box set is possibly the best thing to watch though.

BIG UPS for the Anthology Revisited.

Macca is a control freak. Got the hump with Lewisohn also.

He's cheesed off that MacDonald doubted the "Blackbird"/civil rights thing.

I enjoyed Many Years from Now, but it does read as a revisionist "I was the artsy Beatle" tome. Lorra chat about John Dunbar. You'd swear he was one of the roadies.

Of those not mentioned already, Mark Lewishon's The Beatles Chronicle is a worthwhile go to referencebook, albeit maybe not a cover to cover read.

And I've got a fondness for Peter "Called To Say" Brown's The Love You Make.  A lot if it's told from the perspective of Cynthia Lennon but it's the first one I read and is still, I'd imagine, a readable, pacy primer ahead of the other more academic tomes.

Beatles Chron is ace, and yes ive also viewed it more of an encyclopedia.

I was half jesting really, it's a stinking hatchet job. I read it before knowing about its notoriety and thought it was a real eye opener. A lot of it has been debunked however.

The anthology book is more a coffee table browser than a big-read - it's just repeating the interviews from the documentary. It's still essential imho. Good to dip in and out of.

This might be good but I've owned it for nearly 20 years and never read it because it's too big to comfortably pick up.

Do read it. it's a very deep and insightful story told by the fab four themselves. A definite favourite book of mine.

I hope not, anyone who has seen him recently has been so enthusiastic about a possible Glastonbury appearance.

Surely the time to announce him is now - it's not like he can fit many other summer dates in his schedule...

and bringing Ringo onstage will generate much press

I don't think Glasto could afford the both of them. The sky's the limit as far as guessing what such an event would cost.

Remember that time The Rolling Stones were too expensive for Glastonbury and would never play, and then they did?

Besides, Macca has played before and it's not like they'd need to pay Ringo the full rate if he's only playing a few songs

I get that but it’s glastonbury, the most iconic festival in the whole wide world, it’s not just about such vulgar things as hard cash!!!!  Is it?

I'm having a little wobble these last couple of days and now got the fear he's not going to be playing. Somebody, anybody, tell me it's all going to be alright.

Was hoping the pre-Christmas announcement was gonna be Macca (Kylie always seemed more nailed on anyway). So now it’s gonna be two plus months of sweating it out. That said, as long as he doesn’t fix that hole in his US dates then I’ll remain reasonably confident. We can do this!
